Unfortunately, this project did not meet our expectations. While the demolition and reconstruction of the 2-foot-high wall were satisfactory, the repair work on our front steps was a significant disappointment.
The slate tread (cap) on the bottom step was not replaced correctly. SmartBuild representatives took both pieces of the bottom step away, assuring us they would replace them. However, three days later, I received a call stating they could not locate a replacement, and as a result, they considered the work complete. The steps were left in an unsafe and unusable state, forcing me to hire another company—at considerable additional cost—to finish the job.
Furthermore, after the workers departed, we discovered they had left a bag of mortar hidden behind a shrub in front of our home.
As paying customers, we expect a fully completed job, which was not delivered. This outcome arguably failed to meet the terms of our contract. Additionally, the company could greatly improve its communication practices, including notifying homeowners of their schedule, planned visits, and return dates.
In summary, SmartBuild did not meet our expectations, left the project incomplete, and failed to maintain professional standards.
