    The above review was pretty much what our experience was with SMB Concrete. Nash is a personable, friendly guy but he's completely unreliable. He doesn't show up when he says he will. He did a good job for us several months ago, although it took him much longer than predicted. A couple of months ago he came to our door asking if there was any work we'd like him to do. We had wind damage from the Cyclone Bomb, fallen tree limbs, etc. He showed up the following day with an employee. His employee worked very hard all day producing two piles of clean green material for the dump. Nash said he'd be over the next day to take it to the dump. The next day, crickets. I called or texted him 15 times between April 17 and June 6. He usually replied with "Tomorrow" or "Monday" or "this Friday" until his last reply on May 28. Nash is unreliable, dishonest, a liar, and a poor businessman and conned us out of $1000. More fools us.

    I cannot stress enough to avoid working with SMB Concrete or the two other companies affiliated with Nash (Seattle Retaining Wall and Cloud Concrete). Since we entered into an agreement with Nash on 9/26, he has continually misled or directly lied to us. The work that Nash has completed was poorly done and will require another contractor to fix.

    SMB stated the project would take 5 days and they could start immediately. To allow for reasonable delays beyond this 5 day estimate, our contract specified that they would start before 10/7 and end before 10/20. SMB began some excavation work the week of 9/26. The excavation work left large piles of debris in our backyard and driveway, making both unusable. The work then stalled, with SMB being unresponsive for days or weeks at a time, and repeatedly providing misleading new dates for the work to resume. The week of October 11th SMB returned for a couple of days to place rebar for the footer to be poured. The work then stalled again, with SMB giving new dates for when the footer would be poured, only to be unresponsive and not show up when the dates came. SMB also did not show up for inspections of the footer by Seattle inspectors. Finally, frustrated by the delay, we contacted a concrete supplier directly on Nov 21. We notified SMB of an available delivery date on Dec 5. Strangely, SMB instructed us to order the concrete. SMB showed up an hour before the delivery window on Dec 5.

    However, they did not complete the footer according to the plan, which has the footer roughly 8 inches below the surface grade to allow for a clean finish and level form placement. Instead, they poured the footer level with the existing driveway and alley slope and hand-troweled a rough finish. Seeking a second opinion from two individuals knowledgeable in concrete construction, they determined this will make setting up level forms more complicated and require refinishing of the exposed footer surface next to the alley and driveway.

    SMB then continued providing misleading dates for when the forms would be placed, and being unresponsive. Given SMB’s bad faith in communicating project timelines, the quality of the work completed, and their unresponsiveness, we have instructed them to stop work on this project. We are seeking mediation through the Better Business Bureau.
