Smith Hyder Construction
Craig Smith
Craig has been involved in the construction industry for 25 years. He initially worked as a laborer and learned the trade in the field. He continued developing his craft and through the years elevated himself to Journeyman Carpenter level. Craig continued as a Journeyman for the next 8 years.
Craig then decided to turn to his other passion, cooking. He attended Contra Costa College culinary academy and was a professional chef working at several Bay Area restaurants. Being a professional Chef was not entirely satisfying and after 5 years Craig returned to construction.
Not content with field work Craig elected to move into a management position. He entered one of the top 5 residential bay area construction companies, Paragon, as a foreman. Craig then quickly moved into a superintendent position and after several successful complex projects Craig became the top superintendent in the company. Craig then turned to his natural leadership skills and trained the other superintendents.
After 14 1/2 years at Paragon the company dissolved and Craig co-founded Smith-Hyder.
Chris Hyder
Chris has also been involved in construction for much of his life and has been involved in the industry for over 20 years. He began working in the field and elevated himself to the Journeyman level. He continued working as a Journeyman while attending Oregon State University as a way to pay tuition and worked primarily as a framing carpenter.
Chris also elected to move from field work, however he took a different route than Craig. Chris joined Paragon as an estimator and moved into project management. Chris successfully managed some of Paragon’s most complex projects and was eventually promoted to Division Manager for Paragon’s Peninsula Division. During Chris’s tenure the division grew into a $30 million per year profit center. Chris was responsible for 15 projects annually and over 50 employees.
After 11 years at Paragon Chris co-founded Smith-Hyder.
