Stay away from Solid Builders NY!! Shoddy work, no professionalism, and poor communication skills. This company does TERRIBLE work.
I hired them to pour a slab of concrete in my side yard. The only thing I was concerned with was that it was sloped for drainage. Taj, the guy who gave us a quote, said that pouring a slab and sloping it for drainage was "no problem." Every concern i had was met with a "no problem."
Fast forwarded the day Solid Builders came to pour concrete, and all of a sudden, everything Taj had told us was "no problem," turned out to be a problem. I have a gate to separate my backyard from my front yard, and Taj said he would have to saw the bottom of it off. My wife said that's ridiculous, why wouldn't you tell us that at the consult? "Ok, no problem." A few minutes later, Taj said he would have to shape a recessed area under the door in gate, so it could open. "Won't that cause water to pool up under the gate?" "Ok, no problem. I'll make it drain and put concrete under." Before I paid him, I checked the wet cement with a level. It wasn't sloped away from the house. Taj assured me, "I sloped it down towards the front gate, so we could get it low enough under the gate." The side away opposite the gate appeared to be sloped towards the gate when checked with the level, and the project looked ok, to the naked eye, but we didn't realize how poorly done it was until it rained overnight. The area under the door was now a GIANT PUDDLE!! The puddle left standing water up against our foundation. I called Taj, and stated that I wanted a full refund, and he asked for the chance to fix it. His solution? Let me place a drain where the pool is, and dig a trench (cutting through newly poured concrete) to drain in my front yard. I tried to give him the chance to make it right, but he simply cut the concrete and left a leach drain 2 feet from my foundation. Not only is the drain jaggedly cut into the ground, but it failed to address the drainage problem, as there is still standing water under the door. Further, dirt from the property next door is running off onto our new, terribly done slab. I asked Taj why there's mud running into our property, "oh, it's higher next door, you need a brick wall."
At that point, I had completely lost confidence that this company could do any semblance of a decent job, and asked them for another refund. They said they'll come back to fix it, but at this point, i have zero confidence that they knew what they were doing in the first place, or that they have the wherewithal to make it right. As of the writing of this, they refused to give a refund, and stand by their abomination of a concrete slab. I will be filing complaints with any and all consumer advocacy organizations, and if it comes to it, filing a claim in court. STAY AWAY!!!
