    Remodel of home

We hired TR Sommer, II back in 2015 for a remodel, I did all the checking you’re supposed to do for a contractor and AT THAT time, his license was good and he checked out! He and his “partner” Brittany came through my home in Pauline, SC and we concreted all our plans for the remodel! The first year, all went good.. our job ended up growing because he found poor work and wanted to get the job done “right”. So half of the home was done… then came time to do main house and master bedroom. This was the time I was diagnosed with breast cancer! We had bought 27 brand new windows, a solid wood front door and new French doors for the back This is where things fall apart, we were at our second home in Savannah when I was diagnosed so all my drs were there and with the construction going on, we thought best I do my treatment in Savannah. We had built a relationship with TR by this time and TRUSTED that he would do what we wanted and we would be up every couple of weeks for visuals of the improvements! He assured us he would get the job done and for me to not worry about anything!
My treatment was harder than we expected so it wasn’t every couple of weeks we got to come home, it was 6 months later. We went to inspect the home, no new windows in, no new doors installed, the gas fireplace was built but not with the correct rock i spec’d out and the gas insert had a hole in the base of it! When I saw it, he assured me it was going back for a new one. All my kitchen cabinets were tore out, our master bedroom had the jacuzzi tub from master bath sitting in the middle of the floor, walls taken completely out and complete demolishing of it all without any of the improvements I was looking for done! I questioned TR of where everything was and yes, he is FULL of excuses! His subs were delayed, one guy hurt his back, he’s working on another place and trying to do too much… blah blah blah! He said my windows were at his “garage” and he didn’t wanna put those in until the outside of the house was completely finished painting and grout work done. We again trusted what he said until we kept coming back and nothing was getting done! I started noticing shotty work that he promised would get repaired. By all this time another year has passed… you think my place was done, no! He got to where he wouldn’t take my calls, it was delay after delay after delay.
In Jan 2017, he started spuratically doing work at the home, we had pipes to bust and he had to trench to repair line, but left the trench open because it was “too cold”and hard for him to pack it back in, it was winter and he would fill it back in during the spring of 2018. That trench is still open to this day.
My treatment had complications and we moved to a different hospital in Florida so needless to say our time to check was hard, and the delays were somewhat ok by this point because I was more focused on getting better. I’m June, TR told us he needed $5600 for the rock to complete the front entryway to our home. They completely demolished the brick entryway which left no way to enter the front without a big leap. So we wired him the money to buy the rock trusting it was for what he said he was doing. You can imagine our horror when we came up for inspection and nothing, I mean NOTHING had been done! No new windows, doors, no new rock entryway, no steps, no replaced gas fireplace insert, no redoing of the rock fireplace to correct rock!!! I started lighting his phone up, with no call back EVER! So I started digging and that’s when I found out he was just dropped from the BBB for losing his license, and was told if collected that money after his license was revoked, that was theft on his part, and against the law in SC. You can imagine how sick to my stomach I became. When TR finally surfaced, after 100’s of calls, voicemails and I ended up resorting to certified mail, which he did answer on the last day of the notice and it was nothing but a sob story, how he got upside down with a HUD house because they found shotty work that he had to redo, how his subs left, he turned to drinking and got clean, if we would please give him the opportunity to pay us back. He agreed to paying us and made 1 payment and vanished again! Fast forward past Covid and all the isolation, my home is still demolished and uninhabitable, except for all the rodents and other critters taking over our property! Yes, we have pest control but they still get in with all the open holes left in our place!
Our son and his family wanted to just buy our place and redo the house to their liking, he hired a home inspector and we just got the report! I’m BEYOND LIVID.. all the new rewiring of all the electrical in the house looked good inside the home but up in the attic it was merely spliced in. The new bathrooms that were done, no new plumbing was put in (as paid for) so all the pipes empty out under the home in crawl space. I can’t list all the shitty work he listed in that report! So now I’m on the hunt!!

    Full house remodel

Run! TR Sommers II, principal for Sommercraft Construction LLC, took money for a remodel job and did not complete it. He has not refunded the money owed to us for windows we NEVER got, (according to the vendor he never paid them either). Very poor workmanship on the portion of the job his unskilled crew did show up to do and we had to have it redone. Many other Items were billed for, paid for but the work was never done. We ended up having to replace items in the home that were not supposed to be removed such as doors, door frames, and gutters. They did not show up consistently and caused us an 8-month delay in the completion of the project. According to SC LLR, neither Sommercraft Construction LLC nor Thomas R Sommer II is currently licensed with the state.
