We met with Tom Ray, the contractor, who was also a member of our church. We had issues along the way (a roof pitch error and conflicts with his sub Chris Floyd) but finished the job and paid him in full. Mr. Ray was initially responsive to requests to fix minor problems. After using him a second time for a bathroom remodel during which we had serious problems (pipes coming undone, flooding, and his sub walked off the job) we noticed a leak around our den fireplace. The leak was slow enough that we were unaware of it for 5 years until extensive damage was done. After attempts to have this fixed, 6 months of waiting and after hiring a forensic inspection to check the work we couldn't see we discovered, among other things, an improperly installed roof, chimney, fireplace and subfloor under fireplace which could have burned down the house. All attempts by us to have him make repairs were ultimately unsuccessful. We now must hire another contractor and will end up trying to recover our expenditures in litigation.
