To everyone in the Baldwin County area that may be looking for a home builder, please take heed! There is a conman named Ben "Jason" Fontenot doing business through a company named Spanish Fort Development, LLC. He came to Fairhope from the Baton Rouge area. He does not perform the work that he is paid and contracted to do, as well as not adhering to building plans drawn up by the architect. He will leave subcontractors, plumbers, electricians, and building supply companies unpaid, even after taking the money that was meant to cover those expenses. His workmanship is substandard and will not be completed. My sister has been the victim of this person and he has left her with an unfinished, structurally unsound shell of a house that she has paid in excess of $250,000 for. An independent forensic engineer has examined the structure and deemed it unsafe and structurally unsound, so another contractor will not be able to complete it as is. She will have to spend more money to have the structure torn down and removed. Her property was also damaged by Jason Fontenot's crew and the pre-existing utilities and fixtures that were functional before Fontenot's work began have been destroyed. Also, her kayaks and canoes were stolen from the property. She had to hire another contractor to re-do the chimney that Jason had incorrectly built on the home she lives in, and this repair was in the thousands. There have been numerous other items paid for but not completed on this home as well. The warranties on fixtures are not being honored because Fontenot did not pay the suppliers. Ben Jason Fontenot has not tried to make reparations or right any wrongs. There is now a lien on my sister's property for a large amount from a subcontractor that Fontenot did not pay, but Fontenot had received the money from my sister to pay this person. It makes it even more despicable that Ben Jason Fontenot did this while my sister was grieving from the death of her husband, and recuperating from shoulder surgery. Fontenot is a member of the local yacht club and is looking for business prospects, so please beware.
