By AnonymousJune 25, 2015New construction home240 daysBeware of this contractorResponse from Spears Custom Homes, LLC May 27, 2017#1 I do believe these people were told upfront if they wanted anything extra then it would cost extra, as most people know - nothing is free. #2 The reason for the delay in closing and stuff was due to the weather and as we all know we can't tell mother nature to hold off on bad weather and #3 This contractor went above and beyond to please these people and to keep costs as low as he could, all was fine until the wife wanted more and didn't want to pay for it, again nothing in life is free and this contractor is super nice and answered their calls and texts even when he was spending time with his family on the weekends, some people just do not understand that if you want extra then you pay for the extra that is why when an estimate is quoted that is just what it is an ESTIMATE! I hope others out there understand that this contractor is a good man and he does excellent work and this would be the only complaint he has ever had since he started building and it was just from a pissed off lady who wanted more for free, sorry but I know for a fact that her and her husband were told upfront about any extra costs and I know for a fact there were no surprises about anything. This lady has now sold the house and made a profit and moved out of the state.

He was real nice...AT FIRST. Let me just say first that we have a nice home, BUT we paid for it dearly. A couple things you will want to beware of is that he underbids his work. For example, we were never told of the specifics of the budget on materials such as plumbing fixtures, etc. even when asked for budget breakdown on materials, never any answers...always "I'll get back to you..." Make a long story short, he stuck us with $10,000 in overages at the end. No communication along the way. We could've just walked away, but we already paid $5,000 down(which we would've lost) paid for our own appliances(which were already installed) and bought most of the lighting for the house (which were also already installed) so we were backed in a corner. His budget is so ridicously low that most people would go over budget. For example, his budget for appliances $1,200. You can barely buy a side by side fridge for that price, let alone 4 appliances! Make sure you get every little detail in writing to the grout color of your brick. And another issue-while his subcontractors do quality work, he only has ONE person just about for EVERY job, so the process is ridiculously long! Our house was almost TWO months overdue! Would I recommend this builder? Not unless you got every little detail in WRITING, probably not.
