I don’t leave bad reviews about very many companies or products, but this one I can’t help. We had an addition put in our house by State Building Company in Davison.
The addition was 20’ by 20’. It was on a slab so no basement. There was no plumbing and I did the painting, flooring and trim. State Building told us it would take one, maybe two months. They started in November of 2021. They just finished in February of 2023. . . 14 months to do a 20’ by 20’ addition. We had to live in a house under construction for 14 months.
When my wife and I first started talking about doing the addition, I considered doing the contracting myself to save money, but half joking, we decided “no, we don’t want it to take a year.” Well, I could have done the Contracting and saved the money, and if it took a year, it would have still been done faster.
There were actual months that went by where no one showed up to work, and no contact from State Building. I sent an email to their office in August of ‘22 asking why it was taking so long. I got a reply saying the owner Scott would look into it and figure out how to rectify it. But then it still took another 6 months after that to finish a one to two month job.
I would think State would have offered us some sort of compensation after dragging this on for such a ridiculously long time, but no, they got to walk away with the price stated on the contract we signed while we had live for 14 months, angry, with a half done addition.
Just a word of warning if you are thinking of having any home improvements done in the Genessee County area. I wouldn’t recommend State Building Company.
