Absolute confidence-man and ripoff artist. Steve charged me a flat weekly fee for him an and a low, low-end assistant. I finally noticed, after paying him about $22k, that he had accomplished almost nothing on our renovation. We finally fired him when it became apparent that though we were paying for him by the day, he often _didn't even show up_. He did do some plaster patches and a small amount of rough carpentry -- probably about $2k worth of work -- but much of the plaster work didn't hold and had to be redone by a competent professional. Fortunately, after firing him we were able to find a professional, ethical pro to complete the work.
He had an assistant do some painting, and it was simply the most mixed-up approach we have ever seen. He did not follow directions and the work had to be 100 percent redone.
I cannot advise strongly enough how wide a berth I would steer around Steve Caton. Absolutely lacking in professionalism and integrity, and his work is simply third-rate.
