Our design philosophy is firmly rooted in innovation and craft. Our intent is to create evocative, poetic, and responsible designs to elevate the human experience for all of our projects, no matter the type, size or budget. We foster the development of long-term client, contractor, and employee relationships. Steven, the firm founder, has been a practicing architect for the past 34 years and a Design Principal in two large innovative firms here in Portland and has been an adjunct professor of architecture at the University of Oregon. With his years of accumulated knowledge and broad experience he has built a thriving practice of his own. We run a fun, engaged and collaborative design process often working in real time 3D to aid in the quick visualization of ideas. When not at work, Steve can be found spending quality time, cooking with his family and friends, designing and building furniture in his workshop or skiing on Mount Hood.
We are currently accepting new clients and take on a variety of building types.

I've had the extraordinary privilege to work with Mr. Simpson on a small contemporary home that I plan to build here on our beautiful, serene, south-facing cove in Sitka, Alaska. Mr. Simpson was recommended to us as a rare practitioner of form, function, and creativity; he has not disappointed... in fact, we have been absolutely delighted with the process! Working with him, both on the site and over Zoom has been stress-free, and really such a pleasure. He is not only a master at his craft but also a true gentleman! I recommend him highly for whatever architectural project you may have.

Working with Steve Simpson and his team has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for our Science Center. Steve understands that our design for our building must meet many needs (researchers, visitors, students, staff, historical building folks) and he carefully considered many points of view in the ultimate design. He asked questions that showed respect and curiosity that resulted in a design that reflects our place, our needs and our values. Steve is a great communicator: able to communicate big ideas and structural details with tradesmen, board members, staff and community members. He is responsive and flexible. Through his engagement and his design he has built an enthusiasm for the project that has broad array of people excited and ready for construction. I'd highly recommend him to a large municipality and a small homeowner.
