We had an awful experience with Stover Construction. First, he took his first draw on our construction loan in February 2019 and didn't break ground until 6 weeks later in April. The house would sit for weeks at a time with no one working on it. He lied to us about having the Certificate of Occupancy so we moved in. Ten days later we learned he didn't have it because he never turned in the required paperwork or paid the fee. He never gave us a final walkthrough and never completed the house. After he collected the final payment from the bank in March 2020 (13 months after receiving his first payment), he disappeared. We attempted to contact him 14 times from March 2020 through December 2020 and he never once responded. Once he showed up with a fictitious list of items he said he "gave" us for free along with a list of additional charges he wanted us to pay and threatened to stop all work on the house until we agreed to pay him. There were allot of errors on his list, some he never corrected. He never presented us with a single change order for anything on either list and we were surprised by most of it, and he wouldn't produce invoices to back up his claims in most cases. He runs an unorganized company, never writes down a thing you say, and you will have to provide him with the same information multiple times throughout the process. Several of his subcontractors speak negatively about him. You will pay extra interest on your construction loan due to his delays plus extra mortgage or rental payments on your current home since you won't be in by the contract due date. In our case, the contract due date was October 20 ( a 10 month contract) and we weren't able to convert to a permanent mortgage until 5 months later. Don't put yourself through the stress and heartache we experienced. Hire someone who will be on site providing proper direction to the subs and making sure the work is getting done in an efficient and satisfactory manner.
