If I could rate a "0", I would. This 0 would be for the overall management and hassle we went through to get the job completed. For workmanship Donnie and Jeremiah get a 5. I have waited 7 months to write this review just to make sure the job was completed. We had an upper deck with an acrylic awning installed as well a 4 season room built on the lower level. First mistake, I should have read reviews from Angie's List, BBB, and other site reviews instead of just Sunspace of Central Ohio. Their rating at the time on their site was 5 stars. I saw their set up at the Home Show in Columbus in January 2019. Max S came out in February, Donnie came out and measured and we signed the contract Feb 28, 2019. Second mistake, taking Max's word that the work would be done before I left town on May 1, 2019 and that it would only take a 1-2 weeks. I should have had it put in writing. Supplies were being delivered Apr 15, 2019 so work should have started then. That did not happen. I was told we were the 3rd job sold this year. True, however, there were 12 jobs that had not been finished from 2018 so I was actually 15 in the que. Work did not start until the end of May. In all fairness, I was gone 1-15 May but workers should have been here on the 16th of May. Once the work started, Donnie and Jeremiah did an awesome job. Unfortunately, all 22 windows ordered were the wrong size. Thus another 3-4 weeks added to the job. These windows should have been removed immediately instead of storing them on my decl. We were now approaching the 4th of July. I asked Lisa to have someone come get their 22 windows off my deck because I was having company and wanted to be able to use the deck. I was told they would try and get someone out. I said I would charge them a storage fee for every day not removed. They had someone here within a day. Once the replacement windows came in Sunspace wanted another crew to come out and install the windows. I wanted no one back but Donnie and Jeremiah, who understood what was required to satisfactorily complete the job. When they did arrive, I noticed all the upper slider windows were weather rated for the wrong area. All were rated for the middle of the U.S. and not for cold weather. Another 2-3 weeks delay. Therefore, here I am 7 months after contract signing, 5 months construction time, which Max said would take 1-2 weeks at the most.
Overall, I would NEVER recommend Sunspace. The workmanship of Donnie and Jeremiah is superb. The finished product is amazing. The overall company is totally unorganized. They over sell, have no quality control over materials ordered, and scheduling is non-existent. Make sure you have everything in writing, start date, completion date, etc.

By Don M.May 10, 2019Patio CoverRead more
BUYER BEWARE when dealing with this company. Our nightmare began September 26, 2018 when we signed a contract with Max Sargent to have this company install a patio cover. We paid them 50% down and they said they had a deal with 5/3 bank to finance the balance on a credit card at no interest for 15 months. We felt that the company had integrity. Boy, were we ever WRONG!!!! We were going on vacation to an area without good cellphone service and told them to try and call us for final measurements as we would have people and dogs still at the house. Apparently, they don’t work in that manner. One of the voicemails left for us included a “F’ ya” at the end because the person was frustrated in trying to reach us. Needless to say, that it did not go over very well. As it turned out, that person was the only one that knew what they were doing. I called Max on Oct 25, 2019 and asked about ETA of the patio cover. He indicated that he wasn’t in office and would return call. I called Sunspace on Nov 5, 2019, asked about ETA again. I was told that there was no estimated shipping date of the product. Finally, Sunspace called back at the end of the day and said that patio cover would be delivered the end of Nov 2019. 60 days after signing the contract a crew came to the house to install. There was no communication between Max Sargent and his crew as there were several things not ordered and not completed. The crew installed the patio cover, not square, angles of cuts for trim done improperly, posts were not set equally apart (when patio cover was re-installed, there were extra holes in concrete that have never fixed), caulking not done properly as we had many leaks and the ledger board was not secured to the house properly. Shoddy workmanship at its finest. We had asked for wing walls to be installed as well. They were not ordered. We were told another order was placed and that they would arrive the end of January. Max Sargent finally came to inspect the patio cover on Jan 24, 2019. He indicated that the patio cover was not installed correctly and that himself and others would decide what to do next. Weeks went by without any communication. Finally, on March 15, 2019, a crew came out to take down the patio cover. They didn’t bring a ladder with them. They needed to use mine. What kind of company sends a crew to a jobsite without the proper tools? The next week, Sunspace called and said a crew would be out March 19, 2019. On March 19 they called and said crew WOULD NOT be there because they hadn’t finished a previous job. On March 20, 2019, another crew came out to re-install the patio cover. And again, NO WING WALLS. They said they would need to re-order AGAIN. As part of the installation, a track for wiring was needed inside the patio cover and a hole drilled thru side of house into the attic area. All well and fine until we find out that the hole drilled into the house was five inches higher than the track. We needed to drill out the inside of the house wall to find the hole for the track. Now we have a 3x5 inch hole on the side of our house because of their incompetence. I called Max, told him the issue and indicated that our electricians would be here the next day. He sent one of his crew members to inspect but the guy didn’t bring ANY tools with him. Again, what kind of company sends someone to a jobsite without ANY tools? Wing walls were finally ordered…...AGAIN, and we were told they would arrive the week of April 22. No communication for two weeks. We were called by Sunspace on May 1, 2019 and told the crew would be out either Friday or Monday. On Friday we were called and told that the crew would not be out because of rain and they would arrive Monday. On Monday, we were called and told crew WOULD NOT be out because they didn’t complete a job on Saturday. Seriously, they went and completed another job on the weekend before ours? Seems like lack of planning is normal for this company. On May 7, 2019, 223 DAYS after the contract was signed, the rest of the patio cover was installed. Since the job wasn’t completed for eight months, we now have only seven months of no interest left on the credit card. This will add extra expense to our bill. We still have holes in our concrete patio and the hole in the side of the house. Max Sargent, the owner could care less. This is definitely a company that only cares ABOUT THE MONEY, customers come second. Communication is non-existent to say the least. Has Max called and asked if the final job met my satisfaction? NO Has Max come to the house to inspect final job completion? NO Has Max cared about the length of time it took to complete? NO Did Sunspace care that they scheduled an install time and then rescheduled over and over again? NO (Apparently, it’s okay to inconvenience the customer and have the customer change plans) Is there any compensation to the customer for Sunspace lack of installing in a timely manner? NO Has the job been truly completed? NO

By Charlene I.April 9, 2019Sunroom$50,000
We signed a contract in April of 2018 with Max and sunspace of Central Ohio for a four-season sunroom. Our first mistake was not getting a start and finish date on the contract. He promised us it would be mid-july...after July came and went we called Max to find out what the holdup was and we were met with a very rude and obnoxious Max telling us we were liars and he did not promise us July. after our shock we told Max we wanted to cancel and he told us too bad we were stuck with him. After 7 months of waiting and$$$$.. we are left with a very cold sunroom that is so hard to heat will never be able to use it!!! Would not recommend sunspace of Central Ohio.

We contracted with Max last Spring 2019. The quoted 6 day installation that was supposed to be completed by the end of June turned into a bunch of excuses that he WOULDN’T back up. The install finally started in September and finally finished in November with so much stress and mistakes to overcome. They installed the the room without screening under the deck first, which I expressed concern with from day one! When they tried to crawl under the deck to install the screen they were not able to reach full span and therefore had gaps that insects could easily access. I had to pay for a new floor to be installed over my deck backseat Max would not take responsibility. He pointed out that our verbal conversations early on are strictly our word against his; so warning if you do contract get everything in writing!!! Now that 4 months have gone by, the ship-lap wall that they installed is warping from poor installation; on other problem that I will have to deal with. This project cost us several thousand more than anticipated. Today, my husband is correcting their wiring installation of the ceiling fan. We had two switches installed so that the fan and the fan-light could be operated separately ; they installed in incorrectly and never bothered to check their own work when completed. We do not want SunSpace back on our property EVER!! I have a picture record of the entire process if further verification of our horrible experience will help someone else not make the same mistake that we did.
