    Home remodeling, landscaping
    $127,000

I wish I had seen the reviews here before hiring Yongan (Jack) Song. We had never gave bad reviews to people on the internet until we met Jack. He is below the bottom lines.

He is extremely dishonest, incapable, dirty and unprofessional. It was our nightmare to have hired him and he totally messed up our remodeling & landscaping project even though we have paid him a huge amount of money. In the end, when he realized he couldn't finished what he had promised and fix what he has damaged, he just simply walked away. Such a shame!

    (1) Jack was extremely unprofessional and incapable. He didn't understand the architect's drawings, and blamed the architect for not including the details (in the end, my wife who had no experience on this found the required details from the drawings). He didn't follow the structural engineers' specifications, and blamed the structure engineers instead when they inspected his work. The architect and the structural engineers are actually the highest rated architect & engineer in our area. I wish we have heard their warnings about Jack and fired him earlier on.

    (2) Usually he only hired one or two unprofessional unexperienced workers from maybe home depot, and the work quality was really bad. You would get a clue about this when the workers even didn't know Jack's name and usually disappeared the next day. There were major problems in almost every parts, for example, he didn't do proper framing for the retaining walls, and rush to put the concrete in, and in the end, the retaining walls turned out to be not straight. This stupid issue itself cost us huge amount of money to fix it. Occasionally there are some more professional worker on the site and pointed out his mistakes, what Jack do was to simply fire them and hire cheaper unprofessional ones to replace them. In a few months, Jack's crew has broke the cable line, sewers, air conditioner, heater, sliding doors, etc and we have to hire professional separately to fix these issues.

    (3) I have worked with multiple contractors in the past, but had never seen a contractor as dirty as him. He never cleaned up his work site (both inside and outside) during his six months at my house and the worksite in the end became a huge trash yard. There are even skunks living inside the trashes.

    (4) He usually gave a lower price at the beginning, but for almost every small thing, he only finished 70% and kept adding prices to finish the last 30%. He also intentionally delayed the project schedules until you couldn't tolerate it any more to pay him more money. He dug a huge hole in the middle of our living room to crawl space, and left it there for more than 4 months. He initially promised to finish the project in 4 months, but after 6 months, he was less than half way done and then walked away even though he has collected more than 70% of money from us.

    (5) Jack was dishonest. He claimed he has finished a part of the work, but after checking, he didn't do it at all. He lost the whole hardware box (locks, handles, nails, etc) of our Marvin sliding doors, and then he blamed Marvin had never shipped them to us. We spent hours looking in his trash yard and found them by ourselves.

    (6) It was not possible to communicate with Jack. The only two things that he had been doing are: (a) yelling at us (b) asking us to pay more. It was such a mental disaster to work him for me and my wife.

    (7) In the end, when he realized he had collected enough checks from us and couldn't finish what he has promised to do, he just simply ran away. What is funny is that on the day he left, he also brought the materials away that we have already paid, sneakily like a thief. We were happy he finally broke our contract and left even we lost lots of money, and our early regret was not to fire him much earlier on.

Jack was such a shame as a general contractor or as a person. It was our worst nightmare to have hired us for our projects. Don't repeat our mistakes.
