  Hired Superior Outdoors to do an initial landscaping project (e.g., irrigation, finish grading, curbing, some additional cement work, and sod) based on their price point and estimated start date. We already had a landscaping design with CAD drawings for them to go off of, as well as an irrigation layout configured to prevent over spray onto future fencing since the secondary water in our area has an iron oxide (rust) problem that stains everything.

  The project ended up starting about 3 weeks late due to an equipment failure, which was an inconvenience, but understandable. The real problem we had is with the finished product, as outlined below.

  First, during our meetings with Dave (owner) we had repeatedly voiced our concern about the existing rough grading, and the need to bring in more dirt to avoid water accumulation in a relatively large area where all the surface water runoff from all the housing in the region was converging. We were told multiple times bringing in dirt would be a waste of money and unnecessary. Against our better judgement, we took his advise. Fast forward to the future, as expected, every time it rains or a neighbor over waters, a veritable pond of stagnant water would develop and stay right where we knew it would. We brought it up with Dave and his solution was a $1500 sump pump install to capture and push the water out. We ended up doing this (but not with Superior) to avoid having to tear everything up in the corner to bring in more dirt after the fact, which is a pain in the neck for long term maintenance. So frustrating when the problem and extra cost all could have been avoided by simply bringing in more dirt in the beginning to keep the surface water flowing away properly.

  Second, we also voiced our concern about sprinkler over spray due to the staining our community was experiencing with the secondary water. Dave didn't even bother looking at our irrigation plans (which, candidly, were a bit over the top and did at least need to be modified), but told us he would get everything installed perfect to avoid any over spray onto future fencing. Notably, the future fencing was to be offset from the lawn by curbing and some river rock, so there was room to play with to avoid the issue. As the irrigation lines were installed, we voiced concern about heads that would be spraying toward (i.e., rather than away from) the fence line (which was clearly shown in the CAD drawings), but were told that over spray wouldn't be an issue because the throw and trajectory of the could be easily controlled by the sprinkler heads. Again, we took him as the expert, and let them proceed. Fast forward again to the future, over spray by the heads spraying towards the fence line is indeed an issue that couldn't simply be resolved by playing with the head adjustments without resulting in under spray in areas that would kill off the portions of the lawn. We ended up having to hire another landscaping company to dig up and move a bunch of the heads to better positions that spray away from the fence line. Again, another avoidable and annoying expense.

  With the above in mind (as well as other, less costly, but still annoying issues), Superior Outdoors was usually responsive to telephone calls, and the crew did a good job with the cement work (e.g., a cement pad, and some curbing, wherein the curbing was subcontracted out), SOD installation, and conforming to the general layout/dimensions/spacing presented in the CAD drawings. Accordingly, I bumped the rating up a few notches to account for what they did right. That being said, at the end of the day, our frustrations over the problems and extra expenses effectuated by what Superior did wrong would preclude us from using their service again, and from recommending them to others.

  Superior outdoors is the best company I have ever had work for me, I've never met someone like Dave that has more knowledge and expertise in landscaping, the crew came out and design my landscaping gave me a bid all within one hour of them being there, me and my wife talked it over that night and decided that superior outdoors was our company that we are going to go with with our landscape. the crew came out and did an incredible job on our landscape and left everything cleaned up nice and neat the place looks amazing and we are glad that we have an ongoing relationship with Dave and his company we would recommend his company to anyone out there they are the best!!!!
