Eric does not have a license to practice business in the state of Virginia.
I was recommended to hire Eric by my coworker, and was excited about getting pour in place concrete counter tops because they can be customized to what ever you want. I had seen picture of his other work and not knowing any better, didn't think to check about a business license. Eric was hired to install pour in place concrete counter tops for my newly renovated kitchen. He was provided with a detailed schematic of the counter top areas. I was very specific that I wanted to have a thick polyurethane coating over my counter tops so that he could inset some flat jewelry pieces into the concrete to create a custom look. I asked him prior to pouring if the pieces I had selected would work. He said yes, and to lay out a template for each section of the counter top. These were flat pieces, thinner than a coin. I have seen pictures of concrete counter tops with coins and shells and even rocks embedded into them.
When he built the frame, he left out the section for the dishwasher completely so I have a huge gap where my naked top dishwasher now sits. He did not follow my templates for the jewelry pieces and they are inconsistently in-bedded, some much deeper than others. He finished the counter tops with several thin coats of clear coat that immediately started to flake and peel off down to the concrete layer. The jewelry pieces are exposed and now rusting. When he realized his mistake about the dishwasher, he said he would come back to pour just that section. When asked if he would pull up the entire counter and pour it over again so it would be seamless, he said it would damage the cabinets and refused. He did not put any supports under our ten foot bar besides reinforcement in the concrete to support the entire length. When asked, he said it didn't need any additional support. After pouring the bar, he realized his mistake and installed makeshift wooden corbels down the length of the bar which totally interfered with the seating space. He did not ask me what I wanted to use for support, he just made them and installed them without asking. I paid 300 of my own money to purchase floating steel braces to replace the corbels but since they were not installed prior to the concrete being poured, the bar counter top now is 1 3/4 inches off level. He made us sign an addendum outlining the corrections to be made after we told him we weren't satisfied with the job and wouldn't pay him until we were. He argued with me about the price of the brackets to replace the floating braces I had already purchased and basically never came back to finish the work. The counter top surfaces continued to deteriorate and I was careful to use cutting boards because the flaking and staining is terrible and I worried about contamination. We started court proceedings against him and his company Dec 2017 and we just won the case so he now has a judgement against him and his business for $6200 in Williamsburg Virginia.
