I contacted Sweeney along with other contractors to get a quote for moving a dryer vent. I spoke with Kari who asked me to send in photos which I did immediately. Kari then followed up later that day and two days later to thank me for my patience as they talk it through. No response from me was needed. Three days later Kari got back to me and instead of giving me a quote, she questioned whether or not I knew if it was a dryer vent or bathroom vent (it's definitely a dryer vent) and that it could be an illegal placement. If I wanted someone to come out, it would be $110/hr plus a trip charge. I called in to explain my disappointment that they weren't able to provide me with a quote like we had agreed upon and that I'd like to know more about why they think it's an "illegal replacement" because I don't want someone to come out here only to charge me a minimum of $110 plus a trip charge just to say they can't do anything. Kari was unable and unwilling to provide any further details so I asked to speak to the project manager Lane who made this determination. I was instead passed to Tim Sweeney, presumably an owner at this company. He also refused to provide more details that would allow me to make an informed decision. Instead he kept saying these small projects are just IMPOSSIBLE to estimate and the only way to move forward was to send someone out for $110/hr plus trip charge. I again asked for further clarification on what his company meant by "illegal placement" and he continued to deny my request. He then said he didn't know why I was calling when Kari reached out to me three times this week! The first time was to acknowledge receiving my photos, the second time was to apologize for the delay, and the third time was to say my vent is "illegal" and requires someone to come out at $110/hr plus trip charge. I called for a quote! Obviously we decided this company wouldn't be a good fit. I have appointments next week with other top rated handymen to come out and review the situation, like a company should do. Be careful with this company; it just doesn't smell right.
