We built a beautiful DelMar in PSL in 2019. The initial process with Mayra was great. We were able to change the design and pick our finishes. Then the building process began. Jerry was great but the corporate office not so much. Beware, your custom selections will be substituted for standard options and you have to check behind them EVERY step of the way. The $5000 door we selected was not available so they just picked something else and then was upset that we didn’t like it! None of the plumbing fixtures we selected were installed...they were upset when we wanted them changed even though we had paid for the upgrade. Sorry but they had to replace granite because of their mistake. Then came the closing. Our walkthrough contained over 4 pages of punch items. We were asked to not change the locks so they could come and go as they pleased!!! Our 90 day list fell in December 2019. Some items were not completed due to COVID but now 15 months later we are being told they won’t repair the chipped granite or the cracked hurricane glass on our front door. The crack in the glass on the front door was missed due to the excessive amount of paint spray/splatter that was on the door and tile for that matter. After having someone come out twice to get the paint off the tile we gave up. We still have paint on our tile throughout the house.
The marks on the granite were not noticed at the walk thru because in order to see it you have to stand at the right angle with the light hitting the counter. There are multiple places on the counters that were patched, a sign of cost cutting by the builder. Since it’s already been repaired, we are only asking for it to be repaired correctly not for a new countertop like we deserve and paid for. They use cheap materials-our cabinets mark very easily. Even the subcontractor who came out to repair them (they hung doors upside down and left drill holes for handles in the door) said they use a cheap product.
The craftsmanship of their subcontractors is suboptimal to say the least. We spent months trying to get their electrician to our house to get internet access in our office (they never ran the line even though it’s on the blueprint). Unfortunately he didn’t have a solution except to drill a hole in our exterior wall and run wires in the front of our house. So we were left with the extra expense of extra equipment so we have adequate WiFi in our home.
The painters were terrible. They let you pick any color you want but beware we had to Repaint our entire interior and found countless places that were never even painted. We bought at least a dozen tubes of caulk as many areas were without caulk. Again, we didn’t have the painters come back. It wasn’t worth the hassle-they had to come out 3 times to get the exterior decent.
So as much as we love our home, trying to get things completed has been extremely frustrating. The lack of communication between the warranty department and us is unacceptable. Waiting weeks for a reply by email and not being able to contact anyone by phone is poor customer service. We have even had to reach out to our sales agent in order to get a response. And now to be told 15 months later something is not covered is despicable.
So buyers beware-you won’t get what they promise.
