Permits
- Building permit records show that T&M Carpentry has worked on 15 permitted projects.
T & M Carpentry was hired by my GC in the spring of 2023 to frame a single family home in Downers Grove. At first all seemed well but months later I was contacted by the owner to say that he wasn't being paid. According to my GC, he had a list of change orders that he was trying to collect an additional $6,000 on and my GC was holding payment due to a multitude of issues. Eventually the owner was sending threatening texts to me and the GC and he had a lawyer send a threat to file a lien. The GC ended up paying him so the bank would release other funds and since then I am reminded daily how much I regret that decision. There are a multitude of walls that are not plumb including in the kid's bathroom, kitchen wall, master bath and more. I was told by the GC that the stairs were never framed properly for code and had to be repaired. I was shown by my tile guys how the wall in the kitchen for the backsplash was wavy making it difficult to lay the tile evenly. There is a wall in my dining room that bends when you look head on. I got a beautiful walnut shelf for the master bathroom. I made the mistake of only measuring the wall across the floor and not 7' up where it would be hung. The result is a 1/5 inch gap between the edge of the shelf and the wall that it is mounted.
Did they frame the house fast? Yes. I was initially very impressed but now getting coming off of the verbal threats and bullying and getting into the finishing stages of the project, I can truly see the mistakes that were made and ultimately we paid for. I would not recommend this vendor.
UPDATE:
When this review went live I was texted by the owner at 6:41pm on a weeknight as I was trying to get three children ready for bed: "Hi Michelle, just got notified of your review on BuildZoom. You have 24 hours to remove it and issue me and my company an apology for the lies and false claims you made. If you choose not too, I will be filing a defamation lawsuit against you."
In my opinion, I would be very cautious about working with a company that is quick to lash out at you via text and threaten lawsuits when they are unhappy with their prior behavior and work being exposed.
