Repair dry rot, reside house, build deck and porch

I was so fortunate to have Tad recommended to me. Living alone as a Senior in a strange town is hard enough; throw in trying to get work done on a house you've bought sight unseen and you really have problems. Tad was recommended to me by neighbors in the my new community and I was lucky to find him. I knew I needed to replace the old rotting deck on the back of my home and Tad provided outstanding references for the job including pictures of decks he had constructed for other clients. He came out and measured the old deck and provided a complete plan for what it would take to replace it, including labor, materials and time. On the scheduled day he arrived with crew to begin and got right to work. They had the old deck off in no time. Then he called me outside. After removing rows of siding to access the sill plate to attach the new deck he had found significant dry rot in the walls of my home. Tad explained the problem clearly - the original siding used on my home in 1997 no longer met building code in Oregon due to a design flaw that caused it to allow rain water to be held inside next to the walls and cause rot. The only "good fix" would be to remove the siding from the entire house, repair the rot and reside using approved materials. I was overwhelmed. Tad was reassuring. He'd seen this problem before in this windy wet climate and knew how to deal with it. He walked me through all the constructions steps that would be necessary, provided a detailed estimate of costs associated with each step of the job and provided suggestions for how I might go about funding such a much larger project. With his information in hand I was able to negotiate with my mortgage holder for an equity line of credit to finance the entire project very quickly. Tad adjusted his schedule to complete the project in a very timely manner and worked with me through each step to make sure my choices for color, and style were implemented. What could have been a disaster turned into a really positive experience. I ended up the a new deck, new front porch, and front door, and a whole house with a fresh look and a color I chose myself. It took 20 years off the look of my home. As a senior citizen and a newcomer to the community I was extremely fortunate to find a contractor with his skill, professionalism and willingness to work with a clients needs, desires and budget. I have already recommended him to neighbors and booked him for my next project. Thank you Tad.
