I hired Texoma to install an off-grid system for a cabin on a recreational property that had been served solely by a propane fed 11kw generator. The main goal of the system was to keep the fridge cold when we were gone, and when we were there, have the generator kick on automatically as needed. We wanted to be able to turn the generator option off when we left to avoid something happening to the solar system, causing the generator to run unmonitored until it ran out of propane or locked itself up after burning through oil. Seemed simple, and Texoma said it was a straightforward installation and integration.
The system took 8 months to arrive after the initial order and down payment. I was originally told far less of a lead time, but being in construction, I understand the supply chain disruption very well.
Installation went ok as far as I could tell, however, installation day was the day I was told the generator transfer switch wasn't going to work as I had explained to them, or as I had expected. I was told the generator either needed to be set to automatically turn on, or it needed to be completely independent. Once connected to the system, there would be no more manual operation. I obviously don't want that, so I said leave it off. I'd just manually deal with it when I'm there. Little did I know how big of a red flag this should have been!
Operationally, the system has been a disaster! The system hasn't run for more than 48 hours without shutting off to charge, and on average, I'd say it was more like 20 hours before it would shut down. Since August. Now, after they changed to the originally specified charge controller, the batteries have completely drained. The system is totally dark, and I'm being told they're trying to see if the manufacturer will cover the batteries under warranty, like that's supposed to be my problem. Zero movement towards a resolution in 4 weeks and counting, and calls get answered by their new coordinator and never returned by the owner that could actually do something about this.
In summary, the functionality wasn't what they sold, the installation and programming wasn't correct, and the service after installation has been nearly non-existent. This has been a horrible experience, and unfortunately, after calling other regional installers for feedback, this doesn't sound like an isolated experience. You've been warned.
