Refused to come out without collecting tons of personal info, when he came he was wearing a suit and obviously trying to show off but not with anything of substance, then he let us know that if we would like a bid we would have to pay $1200 for an architect in order for him to do an estimate. If we went forward with the (unknown) plan, of course, that money would be credited toward the final bill... which is ridiculous. Just means that he'll add it to the total and then we'll be basically stuck with him unless we want to lose $1200.
Response from Tgl Construction LLC May 21, 2019It is our policy to gather basic information at our initial conversation. We do this with all our customers and is not meant to offend anyone. On the contrary, it it to have the information we need to prepare a proposal and have an idea of what the client is wanting before we come out to be able to come out prepared. To make such rude comments about what I was wearing and my appearance was uncalled for. I was not wearing a suit. I was wearing a dress shirt and tie. Not to show off, but to show respect for the client and their home by not showing up wearing dirty clothes and muddy work boots. Most people appreciate a business approach. We often work with clients to help them in the process of assembling drawings for projects when they are needed for permit purposes. The drawings are also used to bs able to give a firm price quotation for the job. The customer is always welcome to hire there own estimate if they chose, but without drawings it impossible to gather estimates to compare. By putting a design together with drawings of the scope of work you will know exactly what you are getting for your money. As far as trying to cheat someone? I find that very insulting to my character. We do line item estimates bases on the drawings and scope of work. Yes, the cost is in the estimate because it is part of the cost of the project. Know one works for free or exspect to have drawings for free. The cost for the design agreement is deducted from the contract if chosen to do the work. It is listed in the proposal because has already been paid and by law you have to disclose to alway disclose to the customer the total amount that they have invested in their project. To end this I would like to say, I do not understand why you would wsnt to come on here and write such a negative and misleading review? Not everyone can work together and thats ok. To try to cause damage to someone for no reason is not. All being said, I honestly wish you the best! -

We've used TGL Construction on two projects so far and Tony consistently does high quality work. His attention to detail is awesome--he really takes pride in his workmanship and it shows in the finished product. He is very conscientious about coming up with a workable budget for the project without cutting corners in the actual work. TGL is a true find and we highly recommend them!

By AnonymousFebruary 7, 2018Egress windows and basement repair
I worked with TGL Construction on a basement Egress project. What began as a basement flooding issue was recognized by TGL to actually be previously incorrectly installed windows by another contractor which was allowing water to enter my finished basement.
The project proceeded by eliminating the damaged windows, sills and correcting the basement foundation and installing egress windows.
As with all older homes; as you begin to dismantle to correct you come across new obstacles. I was extremely pleased with the professional approach and willingness to help stay within my financial scope.
I would highly recommend TGL for any project you are considering.

By a user in New YorkFebruary 3, 2018extensive repair of water damage and bathroom remodel$22,000
I hired TGL Construction because I never wanted to be in the situation again that caused me to call them in first place. I had extensive water damage and rot that went all the way into the substructure of my home, including the exterior framing. The damage was caused by work that had been done improperly by the previous owner’s contractors. I have worked with several contractors in the past, even in a professional capacity through a business that I owned. I have to say that as a whole, contractors are disappointing. But not Tony, the owner of TGL Construction, and his crew. I knew Tony was different right from the start. He has been doing this work for almost 4 decades and in that time has amassed a broad range of technical skills. What really sets him apart is that he is driven to understand – not just how to do something – but how to do it right. It is intrinsic in his character. Doing things the right way, coupled with his obsessive attention to detail gave me the confidence not worry about the outcome of the project. I would have been happy with this alone, but Tony went beyond my expectations by staying on schedule, communicating frequently and in detail, truly caring about my satisfaction. I would hire him again in heartbeat. If you want your project done right and you recognize the benefit of getting the best long term value – not just the lowest price bid – then Tony’s your guy.

By Greg R.April 28, 2017Verified Hirebasement remodeling project after flood
The project consisted of flood and mold remediation. TGI did not do the initial dry cut of the lower portion of drywall and insulation removal for the remediation. I had hired another company to do that portion of work. I wasn't overly impressed with the first company's response time since time is so valuable to me as a full time parent and full time employee.
I found Tony (TGI) on buildzoom and he was very prompt and very thorough in his estimate. In fact he even came out to my home after normal business hours to do measurements since it was convenient timing for me. The repair consisted of drywall, tape, mud, sanding, texturing and painting the walls and ceiling. The basement looks better than it did prior to me purchasing the home. The paint color matched very well to what was already in the rest of the house. They were very clean and laid down drop clothes for entry and hallways transitioning from garage to basement. They cleaned up their mess each day and when the job was complete they swept the garage and basement. Hard workers.

By Colleen A.April 9, 2017Everything from TV stand to painting my house$10,00017 days
TGL Construction has worked in and around my house for 15 years. Tony has always been meticulous in his work and fair in his pricing. I've never had a problem with his work, but I know if I did, he would make it right. He has done everything for me from putting together a TV stand to painting the exterior of my house. I would give him my highest recommendation.

Very reasonable pricing, and one of the most professional contractors with whom we've worked. He was on time, dependable, and did an amazing job. He did everything he's said, and more. I liked that any changes were quickly documented and required my signature before starting the additional work. I would highly recommend Tony for any job.

BE WARNED! The owner of this company is a thief! Came and gave us an estimate and we put a down payment of $4,500 with signed contract. After he took the money he delayed his start date twice then stopped all contact. We gave him every chance to do the job but he never replied and never did the job. He STOLE our money and did no work.
I took the case to the CCB and small claims court. Small Claims found him guilty. When we tried to get the money via his Bond it was already gone due to others also going after him for similar issues.
The owner is 100% a thief! Don't give him any money, avoid completely!
