On December 27, 2024 I hired Matthew Lin own operator of The Finish Guy LLC to be the general contractor on my basement renovation project. We had a contract signed by both parties. We gave Matt a $25,000 check that day . By day number five of the job starting Matt was demanding we give him another $20,000. We said No ! We have every conversation on recording that we had with Matt according to his own words we didn’t have to give another check until after we passed all rough in inspections including insulation inspection . A few days after that We then receive a phone call from the secretary at Berkeley Township construction department. Matt forged the homeowners signature on the plumbing electrical & fire permits putting all his information where the homeowner’s information should be , stating that the homeowner was doing all their own work. He was supposed to pull a mechanical permit and never bothered to do so . When we confronted Matt, he tried to pull out of the contract we said absolutely not. You have $25,000 of our money. We have no idea if the work that’s been done already is correct or if it would pass inspections . We couldn’t put a price tag on anything at that point . So We demanded to see the licenses of the plumber, Electrician and mechanical . matt sent in all NEW contractors. The plumbing had to be ripped out and all redone. The electrical needed to be redone and HVAC needed corrections. The permit process had to all be redone at the township. Delaying our job . As if that wasn’t enough, there were things in our contract that we were promised and charged for that we weren’t given. I have holes in the side of my house and in the framing that can’t be repaired . I have weeks and weeks of saved text messages . I have recorded conversations with Matt and a lot of videos and photos. No homeowner deserves to go through this. We could not continue to do business with someone like this. Matt owes us money. We are now pursuing charges for the forgery and fraud that was committed. I put a complaint in with consumer affairs and I will ultimately take this up in small claims court. My email address is [email protected] please do your research you can contact me I will show you the photos. I will let you hear the recorded conversations and I will let you read the text messages.
