    bathroom remodel
    $8,000

The Handy Hatts painting and decorating

It was the worst experience ever. We needed to remodel our tiny master shower. The job was supposed to take 2 weeks, but it took 2 months and 3 days. The price was supposed to be $5,500, but it ended up at $8,000 - 60% increase. After all work in the shower pan was done, it had to be demolished and re-done from scratch, due to the very low quality of the tile job. Contractor is not honest. According to the contract, they should have installed a hot mop, but instead they quietly put a liner and when we realized it, he tried to convince us that it was better. Contractor has given us a 2 year guarantee letter, stating that he would be responsible for any repairs resulting from this remodeling. Now, there is a leak from the shower pan they built, but he refused to come and fix it.
    Do not hire him!

Let it be known CLIENT filed complaint with California State License Board (CSLB) - I demanded and received Arbitration Hearing which CLIENT accused CONTRACTOR of poor craftsmanship per shower pan, no so, under house plumbing system discovered by an Appraisal Company who crawled under house per CLIENT and due to extremely tight wiggle room slammed into P-trap and damaged newly replaced plumbing system under house. Appraisal by CLIENT in fact response to serious faulty foundation over ENTIRE house, i.e., almost all door casings throughout house had extensive crack out at top left and top right of casings up to the ceilings!! Prior to Arbitration Hearing, I, CONTRACTOR, did stop by CLIENTS and identified leaf reported by Appraisal Company at new plumbing system to be again, caused by Appraisal Company slamming into new plumbing system! I informed CLIENT that I would send someone/plumber to repair damaged new plumbing system which would cost Me/Contractor $425 out of pocket! The big problem I faced was NOBODY wanted/would come back to CLIENTS house due to the constant barrage of harassment, ridicule, condescendence by CLIENT towards my team - so, I opted for Arbitration Hearing. At this hearing CLIENT provided an Expert, yes, Expert Plumbing Contractor who wanted $1,250 to remedy a $425 job... talk about nefarious attempt of "unjust enrichment!!" The Arbitrator ruled in CONTRACTORS behalf and I paid, out of my pocket, $425 to CLIENT. This clearly attributed to then CLIENTS nefarious, egregious BS with what appeared on BuildZoom.com - contrived VS in the vain attempt to damage CONTRACTOR!!! As per BuildZoom.com BS, it was also the worst experience for us as well - 1.) Not a "tiny" master shower, considering we enlarged the shower area by "double", moving a partition wall to "open up" shower 2.) The finish time was simply a quote, unaware of change orders we encountered not in Original Contract, Change Orders totally Legal per California State Law A.) Upon demo of partition wall, we discovered a 3" air-gap pipe which then had to be moved, reconfigured into the existing exterior wall to build CLIENTS doubling the size of shower area. B.) Discovery under house entire drain system was corroded, shot - CLIENT was informed total repair was definitely warranted - CLIENT WAS AWARE FROM DAY ONE. The cost of new plumbing "Change Orders" is $2,500 per plumber. C.) Original Contract $5,500 + $2,500 = $8,000. why is CLIENT "Shocked" in BS Review of what CLIENT is totally aware of?? - Not to mention additional time to perform??? 3.) At the time of the start of this project, my tile guy was slammed with other work. I relied on the referral of a tile guy who was new to me - I took a chance with him. I set him up - tile saw, thin set, tile, grout, etc. and headed for Arizona for a couple days, thinking all is well. Upon my return, I discovered extremely bad news. A.) This referral Tile guy literally sucked! B.) I now had (2) choices; First, was to cut this job and run without payment whatsoever for tile, just pull off job. Second, was with what I preformed, I completely demoed crap job, gave the Tile guy $500 for his trouble. 4.) Needed an extra week to prep for my Tile guy to finally come on board - redo of tile cost me out of pocket, an additional $2,500. (The tile came out great.) 5.) The application of grey shower liner is a CODE ENFORCED option to hot mop - our shower pan NEVER LEAKED. The leak was under the house system. 6.) This notion that I "quietly" replaced the hot mop with CODE ENFORCED grey + Silicone liner is ASSANINE. CLIENT was totally aware of the leak. It was not the Shower Pan, but, the drain assembly under the house. 7.) Yes, in writing, I offered a 2 year warranty - our conflict depends on MY work ONLY. The fact the Appraisal by CLIENT with massive foundation issue with extremely limited crawl space slammed into my new plumbing under the house and caused the damage/ leak, again, was attempted to be remedied and, again, met by everyone refusing to work on this house due to CLIENT behavior as stated before. CLIENT states I flew them off - not so! Arbitration Hearing settled it! 8.) FYI, about 5 years ago, I joined Home Depot Pro Referral. The job referral part of Home Depot. In 2016, I obtained (5) star rating consistent to today (5) stars. It is THEM who is dishonest!! I ran a 100% transparent company. This BuildZoom.com is BS!! 9.) In summary, my out of pocket expenses: A.) $500, to referred Tile guy, laid off B.) $2,500, to my Tile guy, Tile redo C.) $425, to CLIENT for under house plumbing damaged by Appraisal employee slamming into new drain system. NOT MY faulty work! P.S. Regarding massive interior crack blowouts due to faulty foundation - CLIENTS attempted to solicit one of my crew to perform all interior crack repairs - behind my back!!! This is not cool at all! The HandyHatts Painting/ Decorating Co.

    Not worth the frustration!

I was very dissatisfied with this company. There is a lack of communication; the contractor is seldom on the job; price keeps increasing as the project goes along. What should have been a two week job (at the most) took almost 2 months. I had to complete many of the items myself and just wanted this crew out of my house.

I felt that my project was a training ground for his kids. I would not recommend this company.

"Not worth the frustration!!! I was very dissatisfied with this client. There was a lack of communication" Contractor on job at all critical issues, client notified. (Interior not problem) - exterior deck system problem. 1.) First offer to old, delapidated, deck system should be replaced $9,600 - CLIENT denied. 2.) Prep entire deck; scrapped, filled with bondo, replace approx. (12) Redwood boards, sand, prime with Exterior Oil Primer. 3.) First you scrap all paint "blowouts" after Original Contract is signed - what always occurs with jobs like this is what looks like "healthy" paint has rotted away under what looks like "healthy" paint/wood, you have to "poke" every square inch of deck to reveal this syndrome... this seems like an endless reveal, i.e., bid (4) boards in Original Contract, it turned out to be (12) Redwood boards replaced, (2) gallons of Bondo cans - it turned out to be (8) gallons of Bondo, plus extra sandpaper 4.) The extreme issue hear is the fact I have treated as much decap as possible because DECK SYSTEM WITH SOLID PAINT IS POSSIBLY DECAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SOLID PAIN WHICH LOOKS HEALTHY. Another option is to STRIP ENTIRE DECK for $6,500, client denied. 5.) The issue is months later, CLIENT deck continues to decay under healthy looking paint and CLIENT wants Contractor to remedy "Now" blowouts at no charge... what? every month? no charge forever!? 6.) Lab results submit by Sherwin-Williams investigation prove my case that this deck; A.) Not replaced $9,600 B.) Completely stripped $6,500 C.) Will continue to "blow out" everywhere THAT WAS HEALTHY, UNDETECTABLY at the time of contractor treatment - in other words, new normal "blow outs" has no evidence of any/ all prior treatment by contract, period. 7.) "What should have 2 weeks (at the most)" - not with the endless blow out discovery took almost 2 months - WHAT!? Under the "$4,100 on Buildzoom.com" print out, it says 32 days, which one is it!? 8.) "You had to complete many of the items yourself" - WHAT!? You must mean its your turn to treat your deck in endless decay - save money! P.S., I personally lost approx. $1,000 on this job.

they will try, try and try to raise the price and do things that are not needed. they moved my stove out to do some work and only reconnected one pilot light. So, there was a strong smell of gas. I had to call the Gas Company out to fix the problem. Then they replaced a hose leading from my washing machine to a sink where the water drained, but it was too short and water was all over the place. Plus, they did not clean up real well. Good luck hiring them!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea who this party is, work I've done for them. This must of been a referral to fellow handy-mans from Home Depot, Marina del Rey store due to me being slammed with other work. Note: I don't do plumbing/gas/work on Washer/Dryer/Dishwashers, etc. Not my job, but, if this person, who I obviously was referred and had my info is coming after me for job done by someone else, this is disingenuous to me and my company!!
