We had a loose faucet in our kitchen sink. Not an emergency but I did want it either repaired or replaced. Found The Katy Plumbing Co. online after consulting a local trade guide where they rated well. They came out the next day as planned and charged what I think is an exorbitant amount of money. Had to also change the emergency shut off apparently and sold my wife (I was at work)an "Ultimate Service Agreement" for another $99. She was told to call for an inspection of the house plumbing which she duly did a few days later. After the inspection the technician (or salesman) tried to sell her a $4,000 water heater as ours, he said, "would have to be replaced someday" Only after she steadfastly refused to consider that option did he then offer a much cheaper option for replacing this water heater which "would have to be replaced someday". While he was in our attic he also reported that the gas venting system from the water heater was disconnected and venting into the attic instead of to atmosphere through the roof. We bought this house new in 2005 and as I was moving from another state had it inspected by a certified inspector for the mortgage company. We have since re-financed and had it inspected again. I have had quite a few people in my attic, including my brother who has his own plumbing business in the U.K. and was very interested to check how it was done in the U.S, and not one of them has ever indicated a problem with the venting system. Maybe they all missed it but I have to confess I have some doubts. He also found another emergency shutoff for the dishwasher under the same kitchen sink that he recommended had to be replaced plus he wanted us to change out every toilet cistern flushing system in the house (three). I have not had a lot of need to call out plumbers in the 6 years we have been in this house and may be way overstating the issue here but I think if I need plumbing services again and when I do decide to replace that water heater I'll try someone else.
