    Derek is definitely a con man. He's absolutely the contractor you want to avoid. He routinely failed to meet code, cut corners, and declared bankruptcy walking away with $50k of my money and an unfinished project.

    I would not recommend working with this contractor. He has previously filed for bankruptcy (previously The Sitzmann Group) and left many families without completed projects and out of a lot of money. In our situation, he failed to create a window with enough egress to allow the city to declare it a bedroom (after numerous conversations). He also failed to put rebar in the basement foundation of another client. Worse, he is a very poor communicator and often will lie to cover up missed deadlines. I would avoid using him at ALL COSTS. He will provide reassurances that he is back in his feet, however, don't be fooled into hiring him. If you are using him, do NOT pay until work is completed.

    Our project was also never completed, leaving us with an unfinished kitchen after 9 months. He took money for cabinets which he never delivered. After we filed suit and paid a lawyer, the contractor filed bankruptcy. We are out $14,000, plus we still need to pay to finish our kitchen.

    Absolutely do not use this builder. Took a lot of money up front 2 years ago and did not come through to finish. We are still not in our house after 22 months. we had to fire him as he never showed up. Now in bankruptcy.
    Poor manager of company, no oversight, and can not build a straight wall or level floor. He is a great salesman. do not let him fool you!!!

    Sitzmann has not replaced windows even though he has been paid

    I paid Derek Sitzmann of the Sitzmann Group over $9000 to replace windows and patio doors in my house in November 2012. Unfortunately he has only replaced the doors and still has not replaced any of the windows as of February 2015. He initially gave me many excuses and then finally has not responded to recent communication except to text that he needs more time.
