The quality of work completed by Brant Taylor of A Sound Decision, LLC on January 16, 2015 was certainly unacceptable.
A. Flashing (gutter board) was not completely caulked and repainted when replaced.
B. The gutter was not cut proportionately to be in equal parts, nor was I informed that SD would need to cut the gutter in half.
C. The flashing (gutter boards) are not aligned to meet up flush leaving cracks in between the replacement flashing.
D. The house’s front gable was left with seams even after I referenced that the side gables, fixed previously by SD, were not.
E. Knot holes in the board were caulked rather than using new quality materials without such defects.
F. It doesn't look like the flashing (gutter boards) replaced were of new construction materials.Based on our prior conversations, it was my understanding that a SD would charge the same rate as from the previous two jobs completed jobs; $55 per hour. It is difficult to determine the actual per hour rate charged since a SD has not responded to our repeated requests for an itemized invoice with back-up receipts. SD never mentioned the hourly rate would be increasing by 140%. Had I been advised, I would have completed the work myself. We also were taken off guard by Brant’s actions inside our home on 1/16/15. He continuously “rushed” the situation telling me several times in an angered voice that he had an appt and couldn’t be late for it, which turned out to be a “dinner date”. This would not have been the case had he arrived on-time at 9 a.m. on 1/16/15 as he verified the day prior versus the 12:30 p.m. when he showed up. When I questioned the overall bill he stated that he did not charge a per hour rate, but that he charges a flat market rate; directly opposite from the last two jobs he completed. Both prior home improvement projects completed were on an hourly basis multiplied by the standard $55 per-hour rate he’d previously told us he would charge. Brant proceeded to ask what I thought the value of the job was and as I presented my calculations he responded “You can pay whatever you like, but make certain I will be paid in full. I’ll put a contractor’s lien against your house”. Both this statement, as well as his threatening remarks to “call the police” were both underhanded bullying tactics not warranted, nor appreciated. Brant bullied me into making a payment in full for an amount that was yet to be agreed upon on an unfinished job.

We're in the middle of a kitchen remodel with The Sound Decision (TSD) and the experience has been amazing. This is the largest investment we've ever made and we couldn't be happier.
TSD returns calls & emails promptly, provides detailed emails regarding the process and more importantly has over-delivered on everything. They informed us of all the things that could change or go wrong and provided a rubric of national kitchen remodels, budgets, and where ours fell. They also provided a % of variation in the budget that we should expect during the process.
Prior to demo, we provided a max budget. Because TSD delivers better than average quality, we are wisely spending more than anticipated to do the job right and not cut any corners. We're grateful for TSD's advice and recommendations because a lot of poor quality was exposed by the last contractor to work on our home.
TSD is a company that delivers high quality, unique results and we would recommend them to anyone that wants a special experience and finished product.
TSD is a company of artists with high expectations for themselves and for their customers and we're delighted that they want to work with us and our home.
