Contracted to do my roof a couple years ago, started promptly tearing off the old shingles, put tar paper up on one side, then gone for a couple weeks working other projects. Finally came back and finished up all four sites of the roof, house has a pyramid type roof structure with dormers on all four sides. When all was said and done I had more leaks than the old roof with dried out shingles.
He pried up the flashing on the dormers to get the new shingles underneath but never got them to lay flat again or seal them so when the wind would blow during rain storms water would come in on whichever direction the wind was blowing. Never could get him to come back and fix this and ended up paying contractors who did my siding extra to fix while they were installing vinyl siding on the house.
The second problem is he installed the drip edge and flashing on the fascia board wrong and the flashing sits out from and sometimes in front of the drip edge in a few sections. This causes water to come off the roof and go behind the flashing and into the soffit. He came out twice for this, first time was the first winter after installing the roof because I was getting water in the house as it would freeze in the soffit and eventually build up a ramp and dump water down the outside wall. Second time he came out, and it took months to get him back out and the threat of legal action he finally acknowledged the problem and "fixed" by installing bent flashing under the shingles and directly into the gutters. Well, it's still a problem and during heavy rain water gushes out from the holes in the vented vinyl soffit. It's now been a couple years and really don't feel like even bothering to contact him to have it fixed.
