Mr. Mastersen and his staff have done several projects for me. Not only was I beyond pleased with how well they turned out and the level of professionalism, I was treated with respect and my home was left spotless when they were done with their construction.
I have recommended Mr Mastersen to several members of my family as well as friends and they have all been very pleased.
The above bad reviews have definitely not been my experience.

Thomas Mastersen is a scam artist. He did not complete our job after he took all our money. He is not a good craftsman nor is he a good business man. Stay away!

I know the individual who wrote the article above about Mr. Mastersen. I also have used him for an extensive remodeling project in our home as well. Everything went off without a hitch at all. Unfortunately there are people who live their lives to just be miserable examples of humanity and use a public forum to disparage a persons character and attempt to impact their income ability and business. Mr. Mastersen and his team did a wonderful job on our home and if he needed a reference we would surely give him rave reviews. Don't believe everything you read that is negative on people.

Tom Masterson was recommended to us. He came and did some trim work for us in December 2013. We talked about doing a bathroom cabinet. We agreed on a price and the design. He said he needs half of the money as a deposit in January 2014- so we gave it to him right away. He came up with every excuse you can think of as to why he can't do the cabinet right when he received our money. We waited and waited. In March he gave us a piece of paper that he said we had to sign stating that if the cabinet wasn't done the way we wanted it wasn't his fault- "it was because the cold winter months didn't allow him to do everything properly". He didn't return our calls for a few weeks. We then asked for a completion date or our money back since it was ongoing for almost 4 months!!!! He returned our money and said it was because it was a difference in personalities and that we didn't mesh well.
He will present himself very well but don't waste your time and money with him! Not worth it!!!!

Mr. Masterson belongs in jail. He destroyed my house and turned my life upside down for months. He would have never have gotten away with this if I was a guy. He took advantage of me because I’m a single woman. He is a crook. He is a poor craftsman. He is a con artist and unlicensed!
I hired Mr. Masterson to enclose my two-story living room with a ceiling and loft above it. Prime, spackle, sand and paint the ceiling. Also to install LED lights, relocate ceiling fans and to install crown molding. On Sunday The day before he started the job he came to my house and collected the first deposit a check for $5000 to buy material and supplies. The job was supposed to take one week possibly a week and a couple of extra days. On day five he requested another check for $5000. Monday the third week he took on another job and took supplies out of my garage that were bought for my job to use at his other job. Thursday of week three he begged me to give him another $1800 advancement to the final payment. He hounded me for four days for this payment until I finally gave in. by week four I was complaining that he’s not even half way done. Most of the time he’s never here. I complain to him about the sloppy work, especially the sloppy work by his helper, Cesar, who does the spackle and Sanding, painting and speaks no English. He had excuse after excuse. There’s paint all over my lights. Paint in the cracks of my hardwood floor. I had to have 20 painters come in to give me estimates out of 20 maybe six gave me an estimate. The others told me point-blank they wouldn’t do the work. They didn’t want to fix his work. It was too much prep work involved. Others didn’t get back to me at all. Three told me that I need a drywall specialist to correct what he messed up. The day before my floor guy was coming to install the hardwood floor in the loft room. I informed Mr. Mastersen that he would be here the following day. When I got home I saw that Mr Mastersen went ahead and install the base molding in the loft area. I asked him why he did that when he knew Mark was coming tomorrow to install the floors. His response was he left enough room for him to go under the trim with the wood floor. The first thing mark did when he got here was ripe out the base molding. The crown molding that Mr. Mastersen installed I had to have removed. His cuts do not match up. He tried to fill in the gaps with caulk. He told me he would fill all nail holes on the trim and the baseboard molding which he never did. He installed four LED lights in my upstairs hallway. I had to hire Electrician to come in and reverse what he did. Mr. Masterson either did not know how to do the job properly or he was too lazy to do the job properly. I contacted three different electricians for pricing. the first one said he didn’t want to get involved with this. It was more work than he wanted. Second one gave me a price the third one gave me a price. The Electrician that I went with informed me of the New Jersey consumer fraud act. If the contractor miss represented himself, didn’t complete the job, or negligence it is a breach of contract and you can sue for three times your punitive damages. Although he has no money I decided to follow through with filing a Lein against him. While I was at the Warren County Courthouse. I decided to go into the recorders department and look him up. Between the years of 2018 and 2022 he has five tax liens against him totaling $160,000.
He had me sign a contract. In the contract, it says that they arrive between eight and nine and work until 430 to 5. Not once did he ever arrive at eight. A few times he showed up at nine. However, he would come and then say oh I gotta run to Home Depot to pick up supplies. Come back a few hours later. on his lunch break, he would go home to let his dogs out and then come back hours later. One morning he said to me while I have your walls and ceilings opened up. Why don’t I run your cable wires behind it and put in a media box for you. I said no if I decided to do that I’ll just have my friend do it for me he won’t charge me. Mr. Masterson said to me, oh I wasn’t going to charge you either because I’m a nice guy and I like you. When I got the final bill he had the nerve to add on $200. While painting my ceilings, he took down two smoke detectors. When he went to replace them, he tried to charge me $20 each for installation. If you take two down, you put two back up you can’t charge me for that.his painter Cesar painted over my lights and my vent covers. Noticed some things were broken. Took the paint that was left over that belongs to me with him. This guy belongs in jail.
