  The above posting by "rich" is extremely misleading. I did a little research because I was so surprised to see this post. I looked on the Virginia Board's site. I read that Jawish was fined for failing to sign a conract prior to work, NOT for what "rich" considers "inferior work" or for not completing work. Tilecrafters have done work for us and for others we know on time and with great quality. You should remove these posts, especially the first one.

  As for the second post, you claim that he "demanded" the funds before working? It's customary for a contractor to require a deposit. Sounds like you just didn't care for his work and you were inconvenienced...certainly not ripped off or misled.

  I built a house in 2009 and hired Michael Jawish (Tilecrafters) to do all the tile in a large custom 6400 square ft house. After paying in 35k for labor and materials Michael Jawish was fired for inferior work. All the marble tile he installed had to be removed and thrown out. No phone calls returned after he said "let me get back to you on a paying you back".   The contractor, Michael Jawish of Tilecrafters, was hired to install "Durarock" surface in preparation for eventual tiling on our fireplace. The total square footage of the job is about 45ft squared. The installation of "durarock" involved about 20ft squared, while the other 25 ft squared, he plastered over the existing bricks (and not terribly well, might I add, very uneven and not smooth). Finally, he was supposed to frame the existing fireplace opening for a new insert. He demanded a full payment of $1000 for the job (in retrospective, it is exorbitantly expensive, but since I agreed to it --- so be it; this complaint is not about his overcharging), with the promise that when the insert arrives, he will be back to frame it. Well, when the insert came in, we notified him to tell him he needs to come back and finish the job. He said he'll get back to us to schedule the work and never did. He did not respond *at all* to any of the subsequent phone calls. He finally responded back to an email, 4-5 months later, saying how he had surgery on his shoulder (and he is not the only employee at his company, he has 3 or 4 others, related to him, who could have finished the job; he also could have called earlier to let us know and help us make alternate arrangements), and that is why he could not finish the job. We were very understanding and said that it is fine, he can either come back to finish the job when he feels better, send someone else over, or pay us back for the unfinished work on the framing and that we will hire someone else instead to finish the job. The amount he owed us was about $250 - $300 (and we would have settled for the lower amount). He said he would get back to us once he figures whether he can find a replacement for himself to do this work and, of course, again never got back to us. After numerous phone calls and numerous emails, to which he never responded, we are basically short over $250. Where we come from, it is tantamount to theft. The fireplace he was supposed have finished ---- unfinished 8 months later. Buyer beware!! A very dishonest contractor.
