It’s been a few years since we hired Tim Shires to build a deck, remodel a bath, kitchen area and a few other projects. He was a pleasure to work with and the quality of his work is outstanding. He had to work with the city of Laguna Beach which can be challenging. Everything has weathered beautifully like the day he finished the job. Being a block from the beach, the salt air can be brutal on a house. Tim uses the best materials and gives options. I would use him again and highly recommend Tim. He’s honest and takes pride in his work.

We hired Tim Shires Construction for a ground up custom home project in Orange County. I was impressed by Tim and his hard work ethic and his ability to work with us through a variety of small change orders. He had an excellent relationship with the county inspectors, which was incredibly important and a valuable part of getting the project done with minimum disruption.
We would hire Tim and his team again without hesitation. -

I enjoyed working with Tim. We had a house in Costa Mesa we need to tear down, move the garage forward, add two bathrooms and 1,000 square ft bedroom all in three months. All new windows and doors. So Tim was busy everyday and we got it done. We love our new home. Thanks Tim for all the hard work.

We have used Tim Shires Construction for numerous home projects over 20 years and have referred him to numerous friends. Our projects have included an upstairs extension and remodel, extended dining room, back and front patio decks, inside cabinets and other projects. Tim has always shown exceptional work ethics and professionalism. He has been incredible with taking personal designs and making those designs come true. Tim is also reasonable and cost conscious, working with his customers to get the best product while working within a budget. We will continue to use Tim for our construction projects.

My experience with TSC (Tim Shires Construction was better than I ever has expected. Tim is very ethical and upfront with any concerns or questions. I was recommended TSC by a good friend of mine who is very particular about who he hires and the work they do. My project was total upgrade of my kitchen, dining and family room. My wife came up with many idea about the design. Tim was very patient and understanding and gave some very good advice regarding the design. Tim explained the changes, we approved them and Tim was able to complete construction
And all finishes within the quoted timeline and within budget and more beautiful than we could imagine. We had friends and family come over and tell us that the rooms looked like they were right out of a design magazine. We are still extremely happy with TSC work. I even rehired Tim to build a large patio next to our pool. Tim once again tweaked our plans and constructed a beautiful patio which we have had many family gatherings under. I have recommended Tim many times for his work and integrity and would hire him again. -
By Steve S.January 17, 2022Addition and remodel of kitchen
My experience with Tim Shires Construction was extremely positive. Tim was the contractor on an addition/remodel on my house. The addition included an expansion of my family room, addition of a bathroom, and a 400sq ft covered patio that tied into the roof. The remodel was to the remainder of the house with upgrades and a new kitchen. Upon looking at the plans, Tim immediately noticed that the ceiling for the patio would be better aesthetically if it were raised. He got this approved by the inspector and the patio is more like an outdoor living area now. It is incredible. Furthermore, the house had been beer gone a previous addition by the former owners and whoever the contractor was did a poor job. Tim fixed all of this without charging extra. The kitchen turned out so beautiful that one of my friends hired him and almost copied my kitchen. If that does not speak to the quality of someone’s work I do not know what does. My experience was fantastic and I would highly recommend Tim as he is an ethical and honest contractor which I think is hard to find nowadays.
One last point. I was so happy with Tim’s work I hired him again to remodel my garage. I live in an older house and when he went to sheet the ceiling he noticed that everything was bowed. He had to essentially redo all of the ceiling joists to make them level and almost retro fit the entire roof. I now have the coolest garage in the neighborhood.

Currently living in a ridiculously nice home by these guys. No complaints. No leaks, no upgrades needed after completion. In regards to the only other review I actually know the poster. Absolute scam artist whose only work in life is looking for legal loopholes to sue companies that cant afford it. Purposely imposed his own setbacks and then whined about milestones all the while playing the happy customer until he halted payment to be made after a passed inspection because even though he has no experience he apparently knows more than certified inspectors. I will kindly omit his name but realize that he is the only customer dissatisfied enough to post a negative review in over 30 years of business. Also note that the next 3 contracting firms he hired to fix 'mistakes' ended up walking the job due to his temperment as I learned from his plumber. Great work ethic and passion for the industry is the only impression I was left with.

Worst construction experience of my life.
Tim can not read plans. He poured 50K of concrete, it was so horribly wrong, it all needed to be removed or repaired. Floors are so non flat you can walk up 3 inches and down 3" over a distance of 12ft. He could not get the elevations of the walls and posts equal throughout, as if he does not know how to use a self leveling laser. His response, I have seen worse, its fine. Tim tries to bury mistakes so inspectors can not see them. He tried 3x to slope my patio for water drainage as per the plans (standard drainage slope), he failed 3x and concluded, its good enough. He built the roof, it failed inspection, he walked of the job, and I had to pay another GC $70K to remove most of the roof and fix his mistakes. He quoted 5 months to complete the project, its now 14 months and its still not finished. He disappears for days when he finds other profitable work despite how far behind he is on the contract milestones. The job site is always filthy mess, and a work hazard. Inspections would come back with 30+ corrections that takes him forever to correct. I could go on, worst nightmare of my life signing a contract with Tim Shires Construction. I should have yielded to previous complaint at the contractors board when Tim would only fix the homeowners house after Contractors board revoked Tims license. Be sure to read contractors boards complaints before selecting a contractor. This is just a small listing of the horrible issues I had with dealing with Tim Shires Construction.
UPDATE: A few other posters came to Tim Shires defense. None of what they wrote is true. They are obviously shills, as I would know of them. Tim had multiple oppotunities ot make good on the 300K in damages he has caused me, but he made zero attempt, which is why when Tim made his case to the State Contractors Board (despite being a great talker), the facts were too much for Tim to overcome. The Contractors Board is in the process of revoking Tim Shires GC license. You don't have to trust me, do a search under the Calif Sate Contractors board web site under his license number and you will see his license has been referred to legal action from the State (revocation) Here is a copy n paste from the State contractors board web site as of Dec 2022. I would definitely recommend Tim Shires Construction. He built a new deck in my back yard. It's 2 levels with stairs and railing. It's beautiful! Great workmanship and quality materials. Started and finished on schedule. His price was quite reasonable. And cleaned up at the end of each day. He also has plumbers that worked on my bathroom!
