Without the help of Mike and Travis, Mark and I are convinced that we would still be renting or perpetually working on a fixer-upper that the realtors had been showing us. Before meeting Mike, we were told by at least a dozen other builders that our budget wouldn't allow for us the home that we needed and wanted for our ever growing family.
Our available hours to meet and shop were never a problem with Mike and Travis. They met us whenever we had time, and even made the odd after hours appointments with the flooring, lighting and plumbing centers for and even with us.
My brother owns a contracting business in the southern part of the state, so we had the luxury of having him to verify and ensure that the specifications and materials used in our home were top quality. During the different stages of building, he stopped by on the weekends with us to check out the workmanship. Never did he see anything out of place or up to his standards. In fact, he was amazed with the quality and many of the techniques used on our home. His comments re-inforced our thoughts and pride in our home, and still to this day, he comments about the top notch quality and the extra touches that can be seen everywhere.
While shopping and comparing other builders, we also noticed that the everyday standards that Timber River included were generally always an upgrade or out of the ordinary for the others. Another neat thing that Mike and Travis put together was a "detailed" set of specifications that outlined every phase of work and the quality and catalog numbers of the products quoted and used on our home. This outline really helped us seperated the difference of materials that are used on area homes. Without this help, we would have never been able to differentiate a name brand window that simply met code from Timber River's standard product that is 33% more efficient. The list went on whether it was their "true" lifetime shingles, their higher insulation values, and even the thickness and fade resistance waarranties on siding. When we asked other builders to match the standard specifications that Timber River offered, most didn't even offer a revised quote and the two that did were way out of line.
The other worry that we had with building a new home was the unforseen cost over-runs that we had heard about. Even our banker told us that we should plan and expect to see at least a 10% increase by the time we were finished.
When we signed our contract Travis explained their customers are never penalized for material price increases, labor issues, weather downtime or even the winter temporary heat. To make this already long story short, our signed contracted price was the exact price that we paid for our home, and we even made a few changes along the way. Needless to say, we have been thrilled with Timber River Homes, as well as their carpenters, vendors and subs.
