Recently I purchased a home in Aiken SC. The seller agreed to make repairs to the home. Tom Clarke was hired to make the repairs. There was a external 9water leak in the wall. The contractor opened the wall and found damage on the upper floor wall. The wall was opened and repaired. When I asked if water could have run down into the basement wall below I was told that the water stopped at the upper floor. I pointed out that the basement wall below had stains on it. I was told that it is not related to the upper floor. They refused to investigate. Once t0he upper floor was finished I had a few concerns about the drywall finishing and the caulking of windows. The drywall was not sanded in places, and you could see and feel the thinkness of the joint compound through the primer. The exterior caulking was only partially completed and where it was applied it was placed on top of the old caulking. The old caulking was raised and you can see under it. The old caulking was not removed nor did they even try to seal up around the old and lifted caulking.
I attempted to address the quality issues, but they refused to return to discuss the issues. They also did not complete installation of a window pane, which they were paid for. Mr. Clarke acknowledges that the quality of work is poor, but claims this was the quality of that he was hired for. I thought Tom would have higher standards for quality and a greater concern about his reputation. Poor construction practices is not what a homeowner hires a contractor for.
Furthermore, the basement wall was opened up after closing and equally extensive damaged was found. The wall will need to be repaired all the way up to the second floor where the wall was repaired by Clarke. I will be finding a new contractor to complete this work.
I cannot recommend Tom Clarke Construction to anyone concerned with quality or professionalism.
