clog pipe, not draining, slug backing up into both units of duplex
    $100

Title: Failed Diagnosis, No Follow-Up, and Complete Lack of Accountability

Melton Plumbing was dispatched through American Home Shield to address a major plumbing issue at my property. The problem was simple to describe but serious in impact: the main drain line from the basement to the street was clogged, backing up, and flooding two connected units.

Before the technician arrived, I made sure detailed notes were provided to the dispatcher explaining the issue. When the plumber arrived, he did not review those notes, did not listen to my explanation, and did not take the time to inspect the line properly. He did not snake the drain, test the flow, or check for blockage. He looked at the cleanout, put the cap back on, and said everything was fine. He then left without resolving anything.

His report stated there was “no mechanical failure” and that “everything worked fine.” This was completely inaccurate. The only reason the line seemed empty was because it had already drained out from the last flooding event. The real issue was that the line from the property to the street was obstructed, which would inevitably cause another backup.

I immediately called Melton Plumbing after the visit on Friday and requested a call back for Monday to have the issue corrected. No one ever called. During my chat with American Home Shield, their representative said they would send an email to Melton Plumbing to follow up. That contact never happened either. Neither the technician nor the company made any effort to follow up, inspect the issue, or offer a solution.

Because Melton Plumbing failed to act, the line continued backing up. I had to hire an emergency plumber out of pocket to prevent further flooding. The emergency plumber inspected the line, confirmed a severe blockage, and snaked the drain properly. The problem was fixed in one visit. This confirmed that Melton Plumbing’s diagnosis was wrong and that they had not done even the most basic troubleshooting.

What stands out most is the total lack of accountability.
    • The technician ignored clear instructions and refused to investigate.
    • The company did not return calls or respond to follow-up attempts.
    • They left a serious plumbing hazard unresolved, which led to more damage and expense.
    • There was no concern for the urgency or the customer impact.

If you need a plumbing company that listens, inspects, and solves problems, do not call Melton Plumbing. Their poor communication, lack of professionalism, and refusal to take responsibility caused unnecessary stress, property damage, and out-of-pocket costs. This was one of the most disappointing service experiences I have ever had.

Guest bathroom clogged toilet with a gurgling sound when there is a bowel movement and toilet paper
    $75

    1) This work was requested through 2-10 Home Warranty, 2) I always pay my service fee, period and the problem I had with this company, was not about the service fee, it was about the incompetence, 3) the technician was uninterested in me reduplicating the issue with the clogged gurgling toilet. 4) 2-10 HOME WARRANTY SWITCHED ME TO A DIFFERENT PLUMBER TO ACTUALLY GET THE JOB DONE.*****BEWARE OF MELTON PLUMBING****** Here is my experience: I was given an 8 hour window initially, then the morning of my appointment I was given a 5 hour window 12pm-5pm and then a 4 hour window 1pm-5pm, technician James with Melton Plumbing arrived at 4:30pm and basically tied up my entire afternoon. When I asked him if he was going to be able to get any work done with how late it was and I asked him if a busy day delayed him, he said "let's see what you have going on, I have had 12 services today." I advised him of the toilet in the guest bathroom that I have had to plunge over and over anytime anyone has a bowel movement and puts toilet paper in it and that I have tried everything from pouring big pots of hot water down the drain to plunging the hell out of it and also draining the tank and cleaning the jets to remove any hard water buildup. He said in a condescending tone, "well it flushes just fine", I said well anytime there is a bowel movement and toilet paper put in it, it struggles to flush and there is a loud gurgling sound, would you like me to throw some toilet paper in it and flush it for you to duplicate the issue? He said "that's not necessary, I will request approval to remove the toilet from the ground to inspect further". Then he moved to one of my sink faucets that continue to stick, and I explained that I have to keep applying wd40 to loosen it up, he turned it on and said again in a condescending way "works just fine", I said that's because I have to keep lubricating it. Then he proceeded to my other toilet that continues to run over and over after being flushed and he said it needed a flush valve. He then proceeded to ask me for the $75 deductible my warranty requires. I said, you have not done any work yet and I'm concerned that you are unsure if you can fix my other clogged toilet, I said let's wait until you get approval and I will gladly pay you the deductible. He went out to his truck to get the flush valve. At this point I was not feeling good about the visit or how tired and disinterested he was in truly helping me with the major concern, a clogged toilet that could lead to overflowing and causing me more damage. So I went outside and asked him if he could just replace the flush valve when he came back to unclog the toilet, he agreed and left. What I didn't realize is that he had already turned the water off and tampered with the flush valve. So I had to turn the water back on and the toilet is now running even more and is acting up even worst. At the bare minimum he should have told me that he had done that and I more than likely would have allowed him to finish the job. On a side note, our home smelled like cigarette smoke for nearly an hour after he left and my Son and Grandson are highly asthmatic. It was not a pleasant experience to say the least. Shortly after he left, my warranty company called me to advise me that James from Tom Melton Plumbing called in advising that there was nothing wrong with the guest sink or toilet, and that the master toilet needed a flush valve and apparently did not mention the sink in the master bath where the drain stopper was not working. I asked about the master sink and she said he did not mention it?? I asked if he requested authorization to remove the guest toilet to troubleshoot the clogged toilet, she said he did not. So basically James from Tom Melton Plumbing, went out of his way to try and sabotage my ability to get my toilet unclogged under my home warranty. I then explained to Maggie in the claim department my experience with James and 2-10 HOME WARRANTY SWITCHED ME TO A DIFFERENT PLUMBER.

repair or replace hot water tank, hired by AHS
    $0

June 2025. Paperwork is sent to AHS very late. No one is trying to find a part. AHS is slow in processing paperwork. Over 2 weeks without hot water at home. Hotel stays and boiling water to take to the tub to wash up gets old. This is the Platinum Plan. I wish someone would just set an appointment to finish the job! Melton ignores my calls, and I have left daily messages.

Please do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company. They were sent to replace a failed water heater in my home, which was installed by them 3 years earlier may I add, they also charged us over 700 dollars to get up to Montogomery county code. After the water heater failed on, it was still under warranty but the good ole technician tried to find a way to make more money by telling us that we needed ANOTHER valve installed and we are glad that we went with our instinct and called our city's water division as was told that it was not needed, and it was NOT required by law as the guy on the phone (Tom) had stated. The guy, TOM, that I spoke with over the phone became rude and aggressive when I advised him on what was stated to us. He became unprofessional, arrogant and used foul language towards myself as well as the city officials. We decided to go with a different company, and it turns out the city was correct all along as the valve is optional and not required due to our city has already installed the valve on the main line leading into our neighborhood. Please do your homework before trusting anyone from this company.

    Hot water heater
    $1,300

I had the worse experience with this plumber and it is because of them that I switched from AHS. They cancelled appointments twice, they are always unavailable by phone as well as by email, AHS could not even reach them for inquiries. The tech they sent to my home when we were finally able to get them to come, was obviously under the influence of something. His speech was slurred and his eyes kept drooping and closing while we were talking. While I waited for his supervisor to contact me back (which he never did) he fell asleep in my driveway with his key partially turned and his car door wide open, and slept for a hour until we woke him. All of this occurred after It took a them a month to come out to complete the job. In the end we paid out of pocket for A-Z plumbing to do the job (completed within 24hrs of us calling), dropped AHS and filed for arbitration. Tom Melton himself is rude and unprofessional as well, the whole company should be dismantled and bankrupted.

AHS assigned Tom Melton Plumbing twice. We had trouble scheduling with them the first time, so we canceled the work order. We recently scheduled with them again via their scheduler and after taking off from work to be available during their time slot, they "no showed, no called"; So unprofessional! If AHS tries to schedule them with you, run for the hills. We are still fighting with AHS to have a different plumber address our issue.

    replace water heater
    $2,000

My home warranty company sent Melton Plumbing out to Repair/Replace my water heater. The first repairman said the heater could not be repaired and would need to be replaced and that someone would contact us. There would be modification needed to bring the water heater to code which I already was aware of. However Melton Plumbing did not purchase a permit for the installation of the water heater although he charged more than double the cost of the permit in Clermont County. He also was not registered to do work in Clermont County. The installation was not to code and when the installer left I had a carbon monoxide leak due to the improper installation of the modification to the vent pipe. I had to call a licensed, bond, Clermont County registered plumber to reinstall the water heater. Even an untrained eye could see that Melton Plumbing's installer was not qualified to install a water heater. DO NOT ALLOW THIS COMPANY TO DO WORK IN YOUR HOME

Fix a drip in my Bath/Shower/ replace a bath faucet washer
    $100

This company sent a "Plummer" via AHS to fix a drip we had in our Tub/Shower and the Guy disassembled my bath on Nov 17 and they have not put it back together as of today Dec 15 2020. My husband think the "Plummer" doesn't know what the hell he is doing. They don't answer phone nor emails.

    leak
    $100

The tech who came out to our home did not seem to know what he was doing, he advised me he wasn't really supposed to caulk our tub and asked me not to tell his boss. He wanted to cut into our ceiling to investigate the leak, I was not comfortable with that at all. He then said his boss wanted him to put the seal back on, and the tech advised me I should call a jacuzzi expert because he can't help, but not to tell his boss that either because he would get in trouble. He told me just to call back in a few hours and tell them it's not working. I would much rather have something done right then "hiding" things. It was awkward and uncomfortable in my home having that conversation. I then called the main office and spoke to the owner I believe, who was VERY aggressive and rude. Made excuses and would not let me speak. He then said he was cancelling the ticket and hung up on me. AVOID this business. Not professional or experts. Go somewhere else.
