DO NOT USE HIM OR GIVE HIM A DEPOSIT. Tracy Winters is now running a company by the name of Rustic Axecents, Inc. We gave him a deposit to start on our home in April 2022 and he stated he was 4 to 6 weeks out. It is now going on 7 months and we are trying to get our deposit back and taking the necessary steps to hold him accountable. We have never done business with anyone who has had so many excuses and treats customers this way. We wish we would have done our due diligence before signing a contract with him. He is a fraud. I don’t know how he sleeps at night.

DO NOT USE - I am one of many that he owes money to for a judgement that I won against him, as he did not complete my log home.

Our review of Tracy Winters construction is already on this page but it went in as anonymous when we meant for it to contain our names, Charles and Linda Adler. We got our house finished on our own, having to put lots more money into it than we should have due to Mr. Winters' incompetence. Being a building contractor is not his forte. He should be in some other business where he can be held accountable.

This is going to be a lengthy, but honest review that I think anyone interested in purchasing a log home package or hiring Tracy Winters might find useful/helpful. I purchased a log home package back in Spring of 2016 from Cracker Style Log Homes. Were recommended that we should have one of his builders build our home because they have the most experience with his packages. Made sense. We asked how long it would take from start to finish and were told under a year, approx. 8-10 months. A few weeks after purchasing the engineered plans and putting a deposit down on the package, I was contacted by a recommended builder from Cracker Style Log Homes, Tracy Winters from Winters Construction. He drove down and met with me on at the site where we wanted to build own home. I received a good first impression from him and I proceeded to sign his contract to get the ball rolling. It took over 3 months to get the building permit approved. Finally, permit was approved and we waited week after week for the breaking ground to begin. Finally in November of 2016, our foundation was completed. I paid Tracy up front in July which was 4 months before foundation/concrete work began. A month after the foundation work had been completed, the concrete company contacted me saying they never received payment. I assured them that I had paid Tracy to pay them. Well Tracy never did nor had the financial ability to. So I had to pay them directly to prevent a lien being put on my property. Tracy said he’d work out paying me back throughout the rest of the build. I only received a $750 credit from the $15k owed. After the foundation was completed, the project was stood still until February 2017. When Tracy and his crew finally came down in beginning of February to start, things went pretty well and we were satisfied with the progress. He had a younger crew with him that were in training which had us a little bit nervous but Tracy was there with them every day supervising. The first flaw we noticed were the dovetail ends weren’t stacking up quite like they should. They weren’t all uniform in length. Some stuck out farther and others are shorter. Also, there were quite a few large spaces between the tails. We were told it was a milling error. Well, by the time is was noticed it was too late to do anything. Lack of supervision on the jobsite was also a huge problem during our build. When Tracy wasn’t on site, errors occurred. We had 2 COSTLY ERRORS that occurred under Tracy's supervision: Metal Roof and Stain on Logs. I asked Tracy over and over again for a revised cost schedule sheet and NEVER received one as he promised. For about a year, I paid Tracy promptly every week (within 2 hours of being billed/invoiced) for 3-4 days worth of work on average of $4-5k and his crew average 3-4 workers each week. The build ended up taking too long and going over budget (mainly due to labor expense). In September of 2017, we were $60k over budget (in labor) from the original cost sheet provided at the beginning of the build. There were some changes/additions, but not $60k worth. In January of 2018 we had no choice but to terminate Tracy from finishing the house. I contacted Cracker Style Log Homes and made them aware, but no one really seemed to care. They did send us the rest of our flooring that came in our package, but didn’t send us our blind inserts for the doors. It was an unpleasant and costly experience to go with a builder recommended by Cracker Style Log Homes. Now Tracy has gone silent and has not reimbursed me for the money he owes me from not paying our foundation/concrete subcontractor.

By Steve Z.April 23, 2018Build a log home$60,000
Tracy Winters failed to complete building our log home. After falling over a month behind schedule, deviating from the builders manual to get more draw money, his crew dwindled from 5 to only one member. Six weeks before we were forced to fire he for violating terms of the contract, he personally stopped showing up. His draw schedule was heavily loaded up front, leaving us with a significant amount of work with little money to incentivize him to finish the job. When we urged him to send a full crew to finish the roof because the rain and sun were damaging the flooring and interior, he texted that it wasn’t in the budget. He texted that the crew, two of which were his kids, were tired of not getting paid and asked me for suggestions. He said he was running the office and not on another job, but we watched him on Facebook cutting logs for Cracker Style Log Homes that same day. The last week anyone was there to do work, it was only one crew who needed us to drive him. The following week no one showed and it was still raining in our house. Do not hire him or his son Jake. They are unreliable, unorganized, poorly led and dishonest. Don’t make the mistake we did!

They treated fine upstanding customers very poorly. Were given funds upfront and left the job incomplete after 90% completion. They did not honor their contract to a military veteran family. They will never get my recommendation nor will I be requesting their services

By Laura K.April 5, 2015Build a Log Cabin. Hasn't even started building the Log Cabin yet. I paid for the lot and the logs-$200,000150 daysContractor Nightmare
Tracy Winters promised to have a log cabin built for our family by April 2015 in the Jacksonville, FL area. We obtained a contract with him in November 2014. He had the logs delivered before December 2014 and left them uncovered on the ground. He has not even poured the foundation yet. When we recently called him he said he had been on vacation. We now have to get an attorney involved and we are demanding our money back. We are also contacting the Construction Industry Licensing Board in Florida.

I have nothing but AMAZING THINGS to say about Tracy winters and his team. they were very easy to work with. We honestly had no troubles at all if I had a question, it was answered, and any concerns we may have had with a product were answered right away. We'd use them again in a heartbeat. Thank you again to Tracy and his team for a great experience!
