I have recently had work done at my NEW HOME. Tod measured the area while still in the framing stages. Upon the completion, still no bid or estimate was available. It was only after paying for a costly engineer ( non refundable) was I given a price, and a contract. Seriously, it doesn't take engineering for two sliding doors if you're a builder, and have been for years to give an estimate. I didn't know at the time the strong recommendation I was given, was by one of his close friends. The work was done and I was told after making the second payment, to look at my contract for the balance. I felt confident that was the price I would be paying. Surprise, NOPE it wasn't. So, before even starting the job, and upon getting the permit, he knew that this job was going to be nearly 7,000.00 more. I found out when he came to collect the final payment. He brought the plans that had been changed by the city, and said it would be almost 7,000.00 more. I was in shock. I paid it , the work had been done, so I paid. Since then, I've been told I should have told him to shove it. His arrogance is undeniable. Buyer beware!! I trusted him and the work he would do. He had nothing with my signature on it that agreed to that extra amount. I feel he's mislead me and as I've told ,others as well. Please read this and know I'm not arguing, the people he hires to do the work, the work was done well. It's his integrity that's in question. I will not refer him to anyone I know.
