This bid was one of 5 other bids we had and the owner offered some good ideas that made us feel comfortable with their services. We paid 1/2 down to get going. I had requested cabinet grade paint and wanted to verify this to the owner - his response “no one has ever complained about our paint” I was never given a straight up answer as to what they used.
3 weeks later, they came to do the install. We were told 3 - 4 days total for install and paint. Shiplap went up well. Cabinets were installed however the paint job on the shelves / cabinets was not cabinet quality but a poor wall paint spray job. Cabinets were also particleboard melamine unlike the plywood samples I’d seen in his shop. I waited to see how things would proceed.
Shiplap was painted and they did a great job. We were happy with this part. They began to hang the doors and 1/2 of them were cut wrong and had to be taken back to the shop to fix and repaint.
We had asked to have grommets cut into the countertops. We paid for metal grommets and they cut the holes. After leaving with the doors to repair, I noticed the grommets were too small for the holes. Turns out, rather than cut a traditional-sized grommet, they cut a hole based on the size of the bit they on hand. In addition to the incorrect grommet holes, our left side countertop was installed uneven by 1/4”
Returning a few days later with the modified doors, the owner himself hung them. He had offered to install our handles on the doors however as doing so, hung them crooked and not level to each other. I pointed this out and he agreed to take them back, patch and repaint.
A few days later, his install team returned to hang the doors yet again. They hung the handles even more crooked this time. They tried to level the handles without leveling the doors and when caught on this, tried to bore out the handle holes and adjust the handles that way. I was fuming. I asked them to stop where they were and pack up. I called the owner and told him I was done. I was so frustrated. I asked to have the doors rebuilt (they had been sanded and painted 3 times by now) and reinstalled where I would install the hardware.
2 weeks later, the owner brought the doors back again. Still at this point, 2 of the doors didn’t fit right and he took those back to the shop to “fix”. I looked closer and the paint was horrendous. Thin, sloppy, grain on the frame coming through. In addition, the doors were even different shades of white. I mentioned this to him and he agreed to have them repainted.
At this point, I was convinced that his company could not build nor paint a door correctly and asked to have the doors returned as is and would discuss a partial refund. 2 times to try to install hardware and failing and painting the doors 4 times. I wasn’t going to try again.
He said he’d deliver the doors back the next week. When his guy arrived, the doors were wrapped, having been re-painted and they were there to install. I refused, called the owner and told him we would not accept the doors and I wanted a partial refund. After discussing with my wife, she wanted to give them one last try and look at the doors. They brought the doors back, we looked at them and agreed they would work and asked to have them hung.
Installer came back the next day and hung the doors. STILL… one door not fitting correctly. He went out and planed it down to fit, leaving bare wood on the side of it that would need to be re-painted. And to add, only 2 of 3 screws were even used installing the hinges on the built-in boxes.
I asked for $750 back to hire a new painter to fix this, the dings from install and the dings on the shelves and walls from the initial install that were not ever fixed. The owner said that was too much and offered $300 in return. I asked to meet in the middle, was denied again so we took the $300 and I am writing this review, 2.5 MONTHS after they were supposed to be finished and installed.
DO NOT do business with this company. They are far from competent and they are tremendously overpriced for the quality they deliver.
