    Roof over deck
    $10,000

I hired Vetran Construction to build a reverse gable roof over my deck. We signed a contract in April with an agreement that that it would take 3 weeks to complete my project. Here it is October and my project is only half completed. His crew would only show up 1 day of the week most weeks or not at all. Charles (Chuck) has excuses for everything. They damaged my existing brand new Trex deck and I have yet to be compensated for it. I already purchased new decking and installed it my self. I would not hire this contractor to wash my car. The worst experience ever! I would give them no stars but the review is requiring to pick at least one star.

    Install a fence
    $4,500

I reached out on a Sunday for an estimate of putting up a chain linked fence and he was able to come out that Tuesday and complete an estimate (at no cost). He was able to walk us through his process and answer all our questions. They were able to complete the project in ~4 days (rain was a factor). It was very helpful that he offers financing so we could pay over time with no interest. He was professional and even drove to a a Lowe’s over an hour away to pick up our gates so we had them sooner rather than later. That was due to us choosing a 5 ft fence (it’s not that common). We recommend him and will continue to use his company for future projects.

    Finish Basement

    Background:
I hired Hartsock's Custom Cabinets to redo a basement. The basement was already gutted and needed the framework, electrical, drywall, ceiling but no flooring. A time frame was set and off we went.

*Go to bottom for the TL:DR report*

So now I'll cut right to what everyone wants to know:

    1. Quality - Quality was good for the price. They had to go back and touch up some trim, paint, cracks between the ceiling and walls (some of the drywall was cut to short and didn't line up even close.) but all-in-all they fixed what they said they would and it turned out great. Everyone we shown says it looks very professional and clean.

    2. Timeliness - I'll be brutally honest. Time and planning is not their strong point. They were over time by 3 weeks by the end of the project. Not to mention they got started about 2 weeks late. I think if they would have started on time then my project would not have been rushed and things would not have had to be fixed or touched up as much. However, they did compensate for the delay and extension.

    3. Cleanliness/Detail - The owner himself, Charles, is very meticulous and does pay attention to details or things that others might not address. However, I cannot say the same about the crew that worked while he was not around. Stuff was missed, left behind, not swept, trash stashed in corners or hidden places, and things like that. However, when Charles was around, he made sure he left the project cleaner than when HE arrived (when possible).

    4. Price - Cheapest around by far. Came in a few thousand less than other places and right around where I thought a 600 sq ft. refinished basement should be. Mentioning quality again, for the price, totally worth it.

    5. Trust - They are in your home when you aren't around, so do I trust them? Yes. I do. I had 2 hidden cameras. One overlooking the entrance to the basement where I could see them go in and out and one upstairs where they should not have gone. I'm pleased to say that there were 0 flags raised for the entire 3 months they were inside my home. One of the workers even brought my 3 year old some old movies her kids weren't watching anymore. Talk about wholesome :)

    6. Does he put the customer first? - YES YES AND YES! This is where Charles and his crew excelled. If something was wrong, they fixed it. Something wanted changed within reason? They did it. I'll be honest. We didn't like some of the trim they chose but when we voiced our concerns, they fixed and replaced. I can't say this enough: He really put our concerns and wants first.

    7. Would you hire him again? - I'll be honest here as well. It depends. If I need something done fast and good, then I might look elsewhere. If I have a project that can take it's time, cost significantly less but still have great quality? I'll go with Charles/Hartsock's Custom Cabinets.

TL:DR - To Long Didn't Read - Hartsock's Custom Cabinets did a great job overall. I'm happy with their work, their customer focus and attention to detail. They need to work on their timing, planning and cleanliness during the project. If you need a project done that's good quality, inexpensive and you have some flexibility? Give Hartsocks a call and at least get a quote. I wasn't disappointed and I'm sure I'll be giving him a call for another project soon.
