We had Walther Custom Homes build us a new home and found it to be a very disappointing experience.
During the construction, he had failed to properly survey the site and once he began building he found he needed to make a foundation change to accommodate the slope of our lot. This resulted in an additional cost to us of $13,575.63 due to his negligence. This foundation change also altered our foundation from a monolithic design to one where part of our garage floor ended up being below grade and he failed to install a proper drainage system. We now get considerable water intrusion into our garage when we have a heavy rainfall. He required us to install gutters at an additional expense of $1274 in an attempt to repair which did not work. He has been unable to remedy this problem and now refuses to even return our calls/texts. He claims our problem is caused by a “High water table” that is only apparent during heavy rain. Of course he has done no testing to verify this and expects us to accept his word on it.
During construction he refused to install the hardwood flooring that we had selected. He stated that while it was available, it was now a discontinued style and he would not install it. He required us to make an immediate selection of an alternate flooring that only included a much cheaper Bruce flooring. The flooring was also glued downed to a concrete floor that is so wavy that much of our furniture has to be shimmed to be assembled or to prevent considerable rocking. Several locations of our flooring has now separated from the concrete resulting in a squishy feeling when walking on it. His response is that our floor is within specifications.
Whenever we tried to identify a problem, he would get upset/angry and raise his voice at us with either an excuse as to why it is not his responsibility or we were being too picky.
There are dozens of issues with our home that show he does not pay any attention to detail that someone should expect from a custom home. We have wire coming out of holes in the walls or ceiling without any cover plates, the hose bibs are not properly installed and are installed in the wrong locations according to the house plans, there are electrical outlets installed in the wrong/unneeded locations as identified by the house plans, there are light switches missing or installed in the wrong and inconvenient locations, there are fan motor controls that are missing, the stone facing on our fireplace is poorly installed allowing the backer board to be visible, there are places where the crown moulding does not align properly leaving gaps, and they even missed installing one of the four columns on our lanai.
There have been cracks in the brick mortar during the first year that have had to been repaired, There is a crack completely across our garage ceiling, I’ve had to reinstall fascia covering that has fallen down, the sinks have all had to be re-caulked (he claims that’s normal annual maintenance), and the shower tiles have had to be re-caulked.
We can not in good conscience recommend anyone use Walther Custom Homes, LLC. Our opinion of his work is subpar and his demeanor when requesting repairs is one of anger and excuses why it is not his fault/responsibility.

Very disappointed with our experience. The builder is very unprofessional and short tempered. The way he spoke to his sub-contractors was very demeaning.

By Brian A.June 3, 2017Build a home$309,000
We just finished building our new home with Keith and Teresa. Was a great experience and a pleasure to business with. We had talked to 2 large builders in area before coming to Keith. I am so glad we did not go with the big builders. When you go to big builder, you deal with a sales person instead of a builder, cannot customize and if you ask a question they say they will have to let you know that they will have to ask the builder. When dealing with Walther Custom homes, you are talking with builder directly. Keith was very patient with all my questions and concerns during the process. Our home turned out great and exactly how we wanted. Anytime I called with a concern or issue, Keith always responded with he will take care of it and was done right. I was at the site everyday during build and was able to see process and talk to his contractors. Most have been with him for over 10 years and have nothing but good to say about him. Since he uses same contractors on every home, he knows the quality will be there and will be done right. Do not be afraid to be at site every day and to ask questions if something does not look right. Dealing with Keith and Teresa you are treated like family from start to close, even after close.

Just moved in our beautiful Walther Custom Homes house and we are more than pleased with the turnout. First, I don't hold my builder responsible for a property that I owned, My property was also wet, very wet! But working with Keith and his team, we were able to get a great foundation on higher ground. Yes, this was over and above the cost but that was clearly listed in my contract. He helped us pick the right path to get the house to be on solid foundation. We had several minor design changes after we started building and he helped us get them included.
What is great about this company is the reliable subs that he has in his arsenal. They was rarely a day in the build process that some progress was not completed. I see other homes on the same street started months before mine and they still are not in yet.
I highly recommend building with Keith and his company. You will like the standard details that comes in his builds (11/12/13 foot tray ceiling in living areas, large windows, etc)... He took a floor plan and made our major changes to be unique and suit our exact needs! You will not find that with the high quantity builders.
Again, you will not be disappointed in the home...
