    Framing- new build
    $120,000

We had a contract with Nathan Scott (Western Homes and Barns) to frame our house for $36,000. We paid him $12,000 up front then another $12,000 when the basement and main level appeared to be finished. The contract stated that the final payment was due after the house was completed and passed inspection. In January 2024 he had financial problems and demanded part of the last payment even though the house was far from completed. He presented himself as an honest, hard working guy so we paid him $6,000 early to keep the project going. On March 11, 2024 he notified us that he was walking off the job to start a new project. Initially we though that the house would just need to be finished. However, after having the county inspect the home, as well as other builders, we found out that a lot of the house will have to be rebuilt (entire roof and eaves, all door openings, staircases, exterior wall sheathing, window headers, two exterior walls are leaning and need straightened, as well as just finishing the house). Other builders don't want to deal with having to tear out and repair a million mistakes that someone else has made. It will cost us over $50,000 to repair and finish framing the house.
This has been an absolute nightmare.
