I did not personally hire this contractor, however, he was responsible for the rehab of the house I bought last year. This is my first home and the house was a complete gut job rehab. I trusted the quality of the work and unfortunately it has been one problem after another. I have had multiple experts through the house for various issues and every time they say to me, without me asking, that the quality of the work was not good. Within weeks of moving in my basement flooded because a pipe backed up. All of the doors in my house have gaps, seal issues, and some wouldn't even close for months. Then within 3 months of buying, my basement flooded requiring me to rip up carpet. I discovered just how uneven the basement floor was, even though it was a finished basement, so they never took the time to properly level the floor. I have had a leak in my master bathroom. My extra bedroom is freezing in the winter and scolding in the summer because they did not put installation in the floor over the back porch area. When I asked the company about this I was told they didn't have to do it, so they didn't. I had a door completely rip off its hinges because it wasn't properly installed. Then this summer I learned about even bigger issues. During a storm, my living room and kitchen ceiling developed leaks and my basement flooded for a second time. I had multiple roofers, home inspectors, and water proofers come to look at this issues. It was brought to my attention that there are two pipes installed on my flat roof that were not done to standard or installed properly. The roofer will not cover the repairs because he did not install those pipes and said likely they were done after his installation by the contracting team to cut corners. That improper installation and negligence has now caused repeat leaking into my house. It was also brought to my attention that the front of my house was not properly sealed. There is no seal around my front door, front steps, window and my bricks have holes in them. This is allowing water to flood my basement during wind driven storms. Again, I was told this is something basic that should have been done properly. There is no drain in the front of my basement where all professionals have said there should be one, only a small pump all the way in the back of the house.
Also, the experience I have had with their customer service was not good. I had a year warranty for the work so I contacted Bruce when I first started having issues. He would ignore my messages, have a full mailbox so I couldn't leave a voicemail, and even set up appointments with me and then never show up and take weeks to get back to me. He was extremely hard to get a hold of. He was generally nice and I will say that, but I didn't feel the work was being taken seriously and it took my almost 5 months since first reaching out to get any remedy to my issues. Even then, many of the issues he just told me to fix myself.
When you buy a home you have no choice but to trust the quality of the work. This is my first home and unfortunately has been a dissapointing experience. I had no doubt that with home ownership comes issues, but I should be dealing with these many problems less than 2 years of buying a brand new rehabbed house. I would not trust this company to do work on my home.
