    Pool construction

    Do not use them.
I signed a contract with Skyler Pools & Spas Inc. in October 22nd, 2017 to build a pool in my house.
This company has failed in performing the work on time and has overall abandoned the pool construction. We have attempted to contact this company via email, phone calls and texts without success.

On my side (Buyer), I have diligently complied with all my obligations (payments) in line with the agreement. In addition, I have been open on facilitating Skyler P & S in progressing with the project. I have approx. $2k pending and the job required to finish it costs $20k.

The job is taking so long that my house is being infested by insects due to the water rain stagnant in the pool.

The operating style of this company is a liability for the Florida community. It gives bad reputation to the Florida Licensed Contractors and, based on the facts and unjustified delays, this company may be using systematic scheme where customers prepay for the work and they either delay or abandon the projects to obtain personal financial gains.

For your safety, I do not recommend you to use this company.

Bad, extremely bad service! Also had lots of problems with the pool deck installation. It took 5 months to get them to repair a small tile that came loose off the spa. And, after repair, the tech left and did not reset the water flow as before. I ended up having to hire a 3rd-party to fix the problem because my requests to get it fixed went unanswered for a week. They installed the pool deck, and it was a disaster! They had to "retry" installation 4 times, replaced almost 100 travertine tiles their own installer damaged, and even after months, they kept caving down and were all uneven. Again, had to hire a third-party to come fix the pool deck I had already paid big money to Skyler pools to install. What a waste of money.

    Verified Hire

"Skyler Pools & Spa did some pool and deck work for us last year and they were amazing! I would give them the highest possible rating because of the service they provided. I appreciated the fact that they were responsive and even though we encountered a slight problem with the project they immediately addressed to our concern and easily solved the problem without a fuss. They were very wonderful to deal with. The project was completed on time and they did not go over budget not even by a cent. I would absolutely recommend them to people we know.

We signed contract in Sept 2012 and were still NOT FINISHED with many outstanding issues. We have many similar issues as the previous customer review. We were assured by the salesman Richard that we'd a assigned a supervisor and he or the owner himself would be present on the job site to supervise. Not only was there no supervision while the work was being done, bu no one came at the end of the day or the next to assure quality. WE too had to be our own supervisors and take photos, make calls and send many emails in order to have issues addressed.
In the showroom we were shown samples of travertine as an upgraded deck. We decided to do the travertine and after it was installed we noticed it was NOT the same quality travertine that was shown to us in the showroom! Our travertine was poor quality with multiple imperfections; large holes, cracked and chipped corners. Not only was it poor quality it was installed poorly. Sinking pavers, uneven joint lines, and the worst part is it isn't pitched properly, so when it rains, water collects and pools outside our home! This can cause us problems overtime.
Thus far, the owner Bruce Davis refuses to address this.
The pool finish has been equally problematic. The finish came out splotchy with blue and white blotches all over the pool surface. Living in south Florida we've seen many pools and never saw one that looked like this! The finish was not only streaky in color , it was rough and bumpy. It looked like amateurs plastered it. They laid some of our glass cap tiles around the steps and swim out( that we chose As an upgrade) that were chipped and cracked revealing sharp edges.
As it stands, the pool needs to be completely refinished, as after sending multiple photos and
Consulting with the Representative from the manufacturer , Skyler admitted that the finish was not done to their standards. WHY did we have to complain for 4 weeks ? Why had they not noticed this themselves ?? Again, no supervisor or over site.
So now they want to send the same crew who botched the job the first time! We have little confidence that they can do a better job OVER the existing plaster! So, our new pool is now considered a refinish. We did our research and learned that in order for the pool to have a smooth finish the bumpy
Plaster underneath should be removed entirely. We are waiting for a detailed response from the owner how he plans to resolve this.
Did I mention we paid in FULL months ago???
The summer has come and gone, here we are a YEAR later and we have no idea if and when our pool will be finished and if it will be done properly. There has been no weather problems or any reasonable explanation as to why this is taking so long. Had there been an on site qualified supervisor or foreman, and the work had been done professionally, this should have been done at least 6 months ago.
WE regret having to write negative reviews , but you cannot imagine how stressful and frustrating this is. We are so disappointed and We will certainly update this review w/ any progress

I entered into a contract with Skyler pools to build a in ground pool on 5/14/12. I was told that they were a small company that builds about 30 pools a year and that the owner is on every job site everyday to supervise the work being done. All this information is also repeated on the front page of their website. I checked out all their info and it seemed I made a good choice.

Construction finally started on my pool but I never saw the owner but figured he had a foreman supervising the job. There was no foreman or anyone supervising anything from day one. Also the owner visited my house 3 times total throughout the whole project. That is where the problems began. Time after time I had to contact the company because issues we coming up and I had to point them out. When my deck area was being prepped and filled in it was not done properly. Instead of it being filled in a little at a time, watered down and compacted. It was completely filled as fast as possible while also burying very large rocks along the edge of the pool shell. It was then watered and the skid steer driven over it and that was all the compaction it recieved. I noticed that the permit needed a backfill certification prior to putting the deck down and I notified Deanna who was my contact at the time at Skyler pools. She asked me to scan it and send it over to her so she could get it taken care of. I did what she asked. Several days later my deck went in.

Finally in November my pool was completed but there were several issues that needed to be addressed. The company asked for final payment and said all issues would be addressed, so I made final payment to fufill my side of the contract.

Upon filling of my pool I noticed my pool was crooked. After blaming it on the tile guy and going back and forth with me we came to an agreement to make up for the issue with the pool. The agreement was never fully satisfied due to the fact the grass in the front of my house was not replaced and the sealing job done on the pavers in the back was substandard with most of my sand already washing away.

Now to the final issue , Skyler pools called in for final inspection but to my suprise it failed.

The reason it failed , they never had a backfill inspection done even though I notified them of this issue. Whats worse It has only been a few months and my pavers are already settleing.

Also now I have to have a portion of my deck pulled up for them to do the certification that I know will fail due to the compaction not being done properly.

This was a last resort, I have almost 100 emails back and forth that last saying this was their #1 priority and would be addressed last Friday. It is now Tuesday evening and as usual nothing has been done.

What makes matters even worse is that through this entire process the owner of the company has called 1 time to speak with me and prefered to handle this through email and when I asked why he was not on the job everyday or at least regularly to check he said it was impossible he had 20 pools currently under construction.

It is very obvious that after making the final payment to this company my job took a backburner to all the jobs they were still waiting to get paid on.
