By AmyAugust 10, 2017Build our house$310,000
I would give this coronary zero stars if I could. We moved into a house that had been newly built and empty for a year. There were massive problems:
Sagging subfloors
Sloppy finishing work
Cabinets installed incorrectly
Leaking brand new appliances due to installers being rough
Cracked tilesThe contractor, michael, was completely dishonest in finishing the work we requested prior to close. After addressing many problems during the first few months we were told to wait until our one year warranty to have the other things fixed. Our one year was in April and we were finally told to stop contacting them despite the "repairs" not being completed appropriately. Our floor is soft and sags in multiple locations. The paint looks like a toddler took a brush and flung it at the walls. The areas that they patched and painted are a different color then the other places they painted. None of the employees sent knowledgeable abt actually fixing problems.
Do not let the surface beauty fool you. The quality is awful and the people in the company, especially Debi schumaker, are rude and do not have good customer service skills, or tact.

Like a lot of others, we've had a terrible time with this builder. Beautiful layout & home in Mooresville NC. Very sloppy finish work. Cheap Cheap Cheap & messy on finish work. Couldn't even buy decent door knobs - had to replace them all on my nickel because they were junk & installed incorrectly. Painters & drywall people left a mess. Paint spatter on floors, drywall dust in groves of wood flooring, poor clean up of glue joints. Said they paid good money to clean the place before we moved in...what a joke! drywall dust everywhere. Still pulling drywall dust from the carpets 3 months later. Punch list items not completed. No response to items left on the "survive list" - yeah what a joke. Guy, we had to clean up the punch list was sweet as pie but blamed everyone else for things not getting done or going right. Hapless is a good word for it. No response to inquiries for clean up of items in the 1st year....not proactive at all.
Well, I'm going to give them a little time to get straight and fix my issues since I'm well within the 1-year warranty....but not much more. Next stop is the NC Attorney General's office. -

The home is gorgeous. The finishing work is complete slop. Paint drips and unpainted areas everywhere. All the crown molding looks like I let my five year old do it. No straight lines and columns full of poorly filled holes makes for a horrible appearance. No return of phone calls or follow up. Taped items at final walk through were never fixed.

My husband and I just closed on our home last week and we had an AWESOME experience! Everything went smooth and we were very happy throughout the whole process. We loved the builder Austin he was always so helpful and always on the job site, as we were there a lot and had a lot of questions. :) Happy buyers here!

We had a horrible experience with this builder. He doesn't return emails. He is aware of problems and doesn't address them. Our one year builders warranty was a joke...He didn't respond...ever. I would not recommend him to any one.

My husband and I closed on our home in May 2015 and have been very pleased with our home from the beginning process to this day. Everyone has been very helpful. Charlotte spent months finding us the perfect lot so we did not have to settle in a neighborhood. I truly enjoyed making my own selections and designing my own dream home! We haven't had any issues with anything in our home not working properly. Of course I have seen a couple petty cosmetic paint things but nothing serious at all. I honestly feel like when I walk in my home compared to the other new construction homes there is no comparison at all.

I chose to use William R Homes and my house will be closing next week. We have really enjoyed this process and the employees for this company. The only concern I could even say we have had is that we were two weeks behind on our closing date, but honestly I understand the process and with working with other vendors these things are not by their control. I see where people have commented talking about bad quality and cut corners, I totally disagree I've looked in several new construction neighborhoods as they are building new homes to see the process and would go to see mine on a daily and they did not cut corners or give bad quality. William R Homes has more detail and design in their homes than any builder local! As for the comments regarding not being able to get in contact with them that is strange because they have a local model in which the builder representative is there everyday and I go by almost everyday asking questions and staying involved, so thats very far from the truth. Any company who has a model home with people working in it everyday to me seems very professorial. I am in the military and have purchased four homes and never had a company I could get in direct contact with the staff like I have been able to with this company!!!! As for the agent Charlotte Horne she has always been nice to me and never heard her speak foully to any customer. I think she has a very funny and upbeat personality some people expect her to be all suit and tie act which she is not shes relaxed and made me feel comfortable around her. I can tell you she has been my agent and any concern I have had she has made sure it was met or has paid out of her commission check to make sure the problem was fixed. I am a very Satisfied customer!!!!

By AnonymousJune 2, 2015Build my home$300,000180 daysHorrible experience with William R Homes
The floor plans are absolutely beautiful but do not let it fool you. The house you end up with will have so many problems it is not worth it. I sometimes feel like asking them if this was your home would you want this, would you like to be treated like this? They love to not answer phone calls. You have to hunt them down to get answers and most of the time those are lies. They will give you an answer to make you happy but it doesn't mean they will do it. And forget the warranty after they finish your house, they will not come fix anything and trust me there is a lot to be fixed once you start living in your home many problems will show up. Not recommend and not worth the headache. Charlotte is not a good representative for this company the builder needs to get more involved because he doesn't realize he's on a sinking ship.

My husband and I purchased a new construction home from William R Homes recently. Our experience has been very different from the reviews I have read, we first met Charlotte looking for a new construction home who is the Realtor for William R Homes she was so helpful and showed us new homes every where in Grays creek, Hope mills, Fayetteville, and Sanford. We weren't looking to build just wanted to move in a home but, after seeing the builder she represented homes there was no comparison at all his homes are Gorgeous and we just couldn't settle on anything else. We decided to build with this company, everyone has been very friendly and the experience was not bad at all it was actually awesome picking out all my selections and the builder and Charlotte set down with us let us change things in the house like the bathroom location. We didn't have to settle on getting anything we didn't want. We picked everything for our house. This has been very exciting and we are so happy with everything. After we recently closed and moved in my friend loves our home so much she decided to let William R Homes build her a new home. I love my house and would highly recommend this company!

I would not recommend this builder to anyone. We had issues with the builder rep Charlotte as soon as we signed a contract. The biggest issue is, no issues get resolved; I expected some issues with new construction. I also expected the issue to get fixed when I express them with the builder. I went around the neighborhood and found that everyone had the same experience with Charlotte. I did speak with the builder on a few occasions and he was responsive but he is based in Charlotte, NC and does not know half the stuff that goes on down here. I am certain Charlotte tells him everything is great. He was very willing to address issues but then the issues get handed off to the crew down here and nothing gets done. The issues are not small issues, we are not talking paint spots. I am speaking to poor drainage in yards that leaves a lake when it rains not only in the yard but the drainage ditches and the cul de sac (completely flooded), HVAC inadequate, electrical problems... In hind sight I should have just paid a better builder. The price was right the quality is lacking. When you purchase a 300k home you expect quality materials and fixtures. You get the same quality fixtures and ammenities as a home for half the price. My dishwasher in my 10 year old 170k home was better than the one here. I have not spoken with anyone who had a walk through that was not a disaster or anyone that closed on time. Take your money somewhere else unless you want to pay for a headache and a rude incompetent staff. The super intend-ants on site are easy to work with but are so over whelmed they forget whatever you told them before the leave and do not write anything down so be prepared to address the same issue multiple times. Also do not have any conversation without an email follow up or the conversation never happened, they will have amnesia...

We closed on our house just under 6 months ago. We were very excited in the beginning to have a home with so many details and character. The process began with an easy flow and then the realtor, Charlotte Horne began to ignore calls and the ladies in the office began to be rude and unwelcoming. We asked several times to speak to the builder directly in an effort to express such concerns and were told he refused and he doesn't make time for his buyer. Now we are in a home where nails are coming through the drywall, we have a leak in our roof, and our back yard is continuously flooding. We followed all processes reaching out to the office and even calling our 2-10 Warranty, but no one has come. We finally ended up coming out of pocket on our own to fix this. As a military family; this is not quit the cost we planned for especially on a brand new house.
On top of all of this both times that my wife and I visited the office the ladies present were very rude and spoke in a very vulgar manner. In one occasion they were badmouthing the realtor and seemingly making fun of him. At no point in time were we ever given resolution on our problems even under warranty.
It is a little relieving to see that we are not the only homeowner's who have had a terrible experience with Charlotte Horne. -

I would not recommend this builder to my worst enemy.
Initially, this builder seemed to provide us with everything that we were looking for in a semi-custom home, to include good value. That façade quickly eroded as we experienced continuous delays in the process, and very ineffective communication from the builders' agent, Charlotte Horne. Not only was she unresponsive, when she did respond she provide erroneous information.
After being in the home for a short time, we have noticed that the 'good value' was from the cheap materials the builder used, and from the incompetent workmanship from the crew involved, to include sub-contractors.
While you may feel you are getting a nice home for a good value, be careful, as you get what you pay for.

"Awful experience with this builder and his realtor"
We recommend NOT using this builder or his agent. Multiple neighbors in our neighborhood with their homes built via this builder all have multiple issues with their homes (None are happy campers!) The quality & craftsmanship is very poor. Shortcuts were made everywhere, as we continue to find defects in the workmanship; as my wife and I talk with the local neighbors we are continually finding that this builder has left them similar or even worst experiences (especially the warranty and heating/AC system). I strongly recommend not using this builder or agent. Please do your research prior to contracting with this company.

We had an incredibly poor experience with this builder and his agent. We can't express enough how much we recommend NOT using them. Multiple neighbors in our neighborhood with their homes built via this builder all have multiple issues with their homes. Many unhappy customers! The quality & craftsmanship is poor. Shortcuts were made everywhere. We continue to meet more families with him as their builder and all have similar poor experiences. Do not use this builder or agent. He operates under multiple company names - William r homes, Melrose homes, and now under a new company name. They promise so much but deliver so little. Please learn from our horrific experiences. Do not use this builder!

I just had a custom home built by this company, I honestly am very happy with my home it's a beautiful home. The builder has awesome floor plans, I've never seen such beautiful Architectural designs. The real estate agent that list the homes for this company is amazing!!!!! Charlotte Horne went beyond measures to sit down with us and make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted. She helped us with selections and showed us all our options, we have closed on our home and we just absolutely love it and our experience working with this company. If you are looking for a custom built home this is who you should contact!!!!!

We are having the same issues with this builder as many others are or have. We didn’t realize a lot of the problems with the unprofessional and sloppy finish work until after we moved into our home. Sometimes you over look this and it’s not until you’re in a Home Day in and day out that you start noticing things you didn’t prior to living in the house. We have major issue with our flooring. Filed a claim in July of last year and got the run around for almost a whole year. We had to almost go the legal route because they just didn’t want to do anything about it. A brand new floor that had over 62 defective areas. There’s ripples in the Ceilings that they sent a guy to come fix and he never fixed them. He didn’t even finish his work and the work he did looked like shit! We have issue with a poorly installed door that they claim is adjusted and fixed but it’s not. It at one point leaked water into the house and caused water damage to the floor. Their response is, if we continue to have water coming in maybe we should get a storm door! Seriously?! Let’s not fix the true problem, let try covering it up by installing a storm door! What a joke! It’s been highly disappointing dealing with them. The warranty coverage is a joke! And when you do contact them, they are rude and make you feel like your wrong for doing so. We are fed up with them. At this point we are making a formal complaint about every issue we have had from the start to now. Some people are all about making a buck rather then being honest and sincere to those who purchase from them. It’s sad. I would never buy another home from
Them nor would I recommend them to anyone.
