Builder came on-site one day for 4 hours, then never came back. Several days later, I inquired as to when he would return to continue work. He then said he had an injury that would require surgery and could not work for a month or more. He suggested I find someone else to complete the work and he would return my $800 deposit, less time and materials already spent. I hired another contractor to complete the work. Several weeks later, I had not received my refund, so I asked about it. He said he told the secretary to mail me a check for about half the deposit (which means he had charged me $200/hour for the 4 hours he actually worked on my project). He promised to check on the refund when he returned from vacation (not surgery, but vacation). Several more weeks passed and I contacted him again to find out when I could expect my refund. He said the check had been mailed "weeks ago" but I never received it. I asked if he could issue a new check for my refund, but that was a month ago and I have received neither my refund nor any response since.
