    New build home
    $450,000

May 2017: I started the planning process with Jack Wilson around August 2015. I had no issues during this phase. Everything was timely and communication was great. After we settled on a floor plan, we signed the contract with Jack around December 8, 2015 (+/- few days). This is when it all went downhill.

Before signing the contract, Jack said there was no way ground wouldn't be broken by the first week of January 2016. January 7 came and went and nothing. Communication with Jack slowly started to deteriorate and the excuses started flowing. I had to keep emailing/calling Jack to get a status. Below are the responses I got from 12/21/15 to 3/1/16:

    1. Very close… it should close within the next few days.
    2. It is back to the bank in appraisal review.
    3. The loan is processing and should close this next week. Holidays have slowed everything.
    4. The bank has sent instructions to closing company. Just waiting for schedule on closing. The holidays schedule has been slow. It should happen this week.
    5. It should close tomorrow……
    6. On 2/1/16: The documents had to be filed after closing. That is done and work will start this week.
    7. The lot replat adding to the width is complete and we are ready to move forward.
    8. On 3/1/16: We had to resubmit the plot plan to the city for their review and now have it back . The rain is an issue right now.

Finally, around March 20, 2016, the plumbers started work (over 3 months after the contract was signed).

From this point forward, work has progressed at the speed of a snail. I sit here writing this review exactly a year later fed-up with the entire building process. I expected Woodhaven Homes to be a reputable, honest, timely company but they have turned out to be the exact opposite.

Neither Jack or Brock have visited the house in months--I could count the times they've been to the house on one hand. Instead of Woodhaven checking on the sub-contractors, I've been having to do it myself. Any issues, I email to Jack/Brock and rarely receive a reply. Then, the issue takes weeks/months to be solved. As of this email, I'm still waiting for drywall work to be repaired (and this is after painters have finished) and exterior stone hasn't been installed yet.

The vendors on their "selection sheet" are either hard to reach or no longer working with Woodhaven. Thus, I've had to buy everything out of pocket and hoping to be reimbursed at closing. As of this email, I've purchased over $60,000.00 in materials myself (tile; cabinets; hardwood; fixtures; toilets; etc)--this is in addition to the $50,000.00 deposit we paid Jack in December 2015.

Recently, the sub-contractors have been complaining to me about payment when I visit the house. It seems Jack hasn't been paying them on time after they complete the job. The framers and painters stopped working in the middle of the job because they didn't receive payment from Jack. This delayed the project more and more.

I left Jack a voicemail approximately 2 weeks ago and have yet to receive a reply. I sit here writing this review 12 months after construction started and approximately 15 months after we signed the contract with no end in sight. I've asked Jack for an estimated completion date over 10 times with no reply.

I've seen houses start after mine and finish before mine and I'm still going through this horrendous process with Woodhaven. Do yourself a favor and choose another contractor to build your dream home. Woodhaven may have once been a great contractor but issues behind the scenes and incompetent employees have dragged this company down.

UPDATE as of 9/1/17. I write this update with no end in sight and on the verge of letting my attorney file the suit—that’s how horrible the building process has been with Woodhaven. Jack now refuses to answer my texts—saying I’m impossible to work with. What he fails to realize is that I didn’t bother him for the first 8-10 months; but now that he is 13 months BEHIND schedule, I am angry and tired of dealing with his “company.”

Jack or Brock say one thing and then the sub’s actually tell you the truth. Example: Jack said the HVAC was scheduled to start after concrete was poured (poured on Monday 8/28). I called the HVAC company on 8/29 and he said “Jack hasn’t contacted me yet.” This is just one example; this exact scenario has happened with multiple sub-contractors. Jack will tell you he has scheduled something; when, in fact, he hasn’t!

I contacted the siding contractor to see when he would correct his errors. I texted his response to Jack and Brock; and this was Brock’s response: “Stop sending stupid stuff. He can tell you what he wants.”

On top of it all, I’ve had other current customers of Woodhaven contact me complaining about Woodhaven as well! I hate that others are having to go through this ridiculous process but it doesn’t shock me the least bit.
