What started with a seemingly knowledgeable salesperson turned into a nightmare HVAC system. Our small home needed a replacement heat pump. We were recommended to go with a Ruud 3 ton split unit. It was very expensive.
The install seemed quick and straightforward. After the install was done, we were told that to set up the programmable thermostat would cost $100 extra. Stupid, since it's already part of the system.
The first noticeable problem was the 90+ decibel operating noise. This thing pushed so much air it slammed every door it could. We had to have them to come back to adjust the blower speed, but it is still unacceptably loud and too much for the house. They did not even notice the problem after their install. Then we were concerned that air was not getting to one end of the house. A month later, they sent someone out who found that the two flex ducts that had been fine before the install had been disconnected in the attic. Instead of reconnecting them, they wrote a work order for someone to come back another time. So it will be 6 weeks of heating the attic instead of the home.
If the initial recomendation were for the correct size, we could have saved $5,000 and might be happy with a quiet heat pump. instead, we were oversold and left hanging with a piece of crap that will hurt the home value.
