American home shield dispatched zone Mechanical to fix a problem with our central air unit. The guy came and diagnosed a problem pretty quickly. It was actually with our heat part of the unit turns out it was only a disconnected wire preventing our ac to work. He said he would order the part for the heat part of our unit and and would l call to schedule a time to put come out it in when the pet was in. He called only a few days later said the part was in and the next day he cane to our home to put it in. He then said he was going to clean our coils when I asked how much that would cost he said $250. I told him I couldn’t do that today because I was laid off due to covid-19. He immediately looked pissed off and gave me attitude. I felt uncomfortable so I went inside while he finished up. He came to my front door when he was done and told me everything was fixed and left. My ac worked The very next day I had no cool air coming out of my vents only warm. Called AHS to send someone back out NOT zone mechanical. That guy came out told me I had no refrigerant left in my system and that I needed 9lbs. He submitted that to AHS and we kept getting the run around so we called our own hvac guy to come out and give us a diagnosis. He came out same day and checked our refrigerant told us it was bone dry and showed us our Schrader valves (which holds the refrigerant in our system) They had been bent. This guys told us there is visual proof that or system was tampered with. Zone mechanical purposely bent the Schrader valves on our central ac unit so all of our refrigerant would leak out. AHS doesn’t pay to put Refrigerant in. These people are scam artists that just want your money. They don’t care how they get it if they have to personally damage your property to get it then that what they will do. STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE AND IF YOUR WARRANTY COMPANY TELLS YOU THEY ARE SENDING THESE PEOPLE OUT TELL THEM NO YOU WANT A DIFFERENT COMPANY.

Zone Mechanical was dispatched through our home warranty service. The day of the appointment he was 3 hrs late. He told me the office should have called me the previous day to reschedule due to an emergency call he had to make. I never received a call. After diagnosing the issue, he said he had to order parts & would be in touch the following week. We have made several calls & the warranty company has called. We only get an answering machine & haven’t received any return calls for almost 2 weeks.

These people are scammers. They told me my unit is not connected but my unit was working. They scammed me $100. I think they are not even reading this review. They got the contracts from AHS and they keep on scamming the people. Most of them had bad experience.

does not stick to word.Would never think of using their services. I was told I would be contacted within 24 hours to fix an AC unit. I Had to reach out on my own within 24 hrs which is not a problem but they did not pick up. I left a message and went on with my day. 24 hrs passed again now making it 48hrs in total. Called back same thing.. left a message and went on with my day. Still haven't heard from them so I called back now making it 3 days and still no answer... Had to cancel my service. At least have the decency to call or even email me a notice saying that you are busy at the moment or something. Highly recommend anyone else.

American Home Shield dispatched Zone Mechanical to my house last week to take a look at my broken furnace. A technician came and told me what was wrong and said he will call us within the next day or two with an estimate. I’ve patiently waited three days and received no call. I’ve tried reaching out to the company myself and they never picked up. I left messages and they never got back to me. I called AHS and they were unable to reach them either. With the weather getting colder and the snow storm we got a couple days ago, this is absolutely ridiculous. I told the technician that this is an emergency when he first came; however, him and his company follow through by ignoring customers and insurance companies’ calls and messages? If they don’t want the job, be straight up about it instead of wasting everyone’s valuable time and leaving a family in cold frigid weather for even longer. The most ridiculous part is that Zone Mechanical took the $75 service call fee.
I’ve read some of the reviews left on this website, and I see that I wasn’t the only one who went through such a bad experience with this company. If only AHS dispatched a different company to begin with, everything would’ve went smoothly and this would’ve been a quicker process. I’m extremely disappointed at this unprofessional company and wouldn’t even give Zone Mechanical one star, but sadly, one star is the minimum to leave a review. -

By BenApril 26, 2018AC repair
Mike came to our home more than a week ago to look at a faulty AC unit. He found what was wrong and he said he will call us in 48 hours with an estimate. One week later no response. They were dispatched to my house through home warranty. 5 phone calls later and there is no answer. If they cant answer a phone call how could they be trusted with the work they do. No thank you.

I had to leave a review after I saw how horrible people think they are. First of all anyone working with American Home Shield you are up a creek without a paddle. That company drug me through sludge and back wanting me to repair a nineteen-year-old system by replacing one part only for another to fail and nickeled and dimed me the entire way. After spending out-of-pocket expenses well over what a new system would have cost I was glad to have these guys come out and fix it all! They were reasonably priced, confident, professional, and got the work done in a few hours! We ended up paying almost entirely for a new system out of pocket because we had maxed out our $2,000 cap with AHS for them to replace Parts on our old machine I think it's completely ridiculous and what a scam they were. I would have been better off just replacing the system from jump and not using AHS who ended up costing me over $5,000 out of pocket! These guys were life-saving they did it right the first time and were even fair about the price understanding I've been through a lot with AHS! They are also a family-based business so they are not corporate so when they are overwhelmed with over a hundred calls a day I'm sure it's not easy for them to get back to everyone but I would take a mom-and-pop business over big Corporate America any day!

I’ve had Zone Machanical called out by AHS several times. I’ve had great service every single time! The tech Mike even showed me how to do some minor annual maintenance myself that could prevent future unnessary service calls and gave me some advice about how to install a Nest thermostat myself. Shame to hear about all of these bad experiences. This has never been the case with our interactions. They have always been great for us! Felt that I needed to give my positive feedback here when I saw these reviews.

These guys are pretty much scam artists. First, they claimed refrigerant cost $100/lb. I didn't really care because my home warranty company paid it, but a google search shows you can find it for $25-35/pound and a lot of other people having issues with "companies" like Zone Mechanical charging them insane amounts for this.
Second, after they pumped my AC full of a ton of refrigerant it was still broke, the entire inside of my AC unit was caked with freon they pumped in there because there was an actual leak, they wanted an additional $195 fee that AHS wouldn't cover for removal of "hazardous material" on the old compressor. I refused to pay it. It is an absolute scam. I called other AC companies, my waste disposal company, and scrap yards and they all claimed it could be disposed of by me. My county's website even listed locations I could take such items and noted one charge $20 for disposal. The rest were FREE! When I refused to pay the fee, they would no longer call me or AHS back about the work. Two days later AHS told me to go get my own repair contractor and they would reimburse me. I couldn't be happier.
Stay away from these guys. They are just out to grab cheap and easy money from service call fees, "disposal fees", and jacking up refrigerant price. They are an absolute joke and should be called out for it.

By Jason G.December 20, 2016Central Air Retro Install1 day
Had a warranty with AHS and they sent another contractor out a number of times to fix my central air conditioner. After a number of complaints they finally sent out Zone Mechanical to give me a second opinion. Zone was on time and professional and determined that the original contractor installed a mismatched 3 ton air handler (I had a 2 ton compressor). When the original contractor refused to rectify the issues, Zone stepped up and negotiated with AHS on my behalf and eventually I was able to have them install a completely brand new split unit that was partially covered by the AHS warranty. For the out of pocket expenses Zone was very reasonable. Zone went above and beyond as far as I'm concerned.

Zone Mechanical is horrible. They came to my house to fix our AC unit via American Home Shield. They said that it was unfixable and not covered by AHS (both of which I've come to learn were untrue). Worse yet they never completed the necessary paperwork for AHS to close out the service request allowing AHS to dispatch someone else. Both AHS and I have called them over a dozen times and they do not accept of return calls.

We needed emergency service on two air conditioning units. The technician arrived promptly the next day. He was professional and very competent. Both units have been repaired and are working satisfactorily. I would recommend them to anyone needing this type of service.

AnonymousJune 15, 2015install air condition/heater unit$3,0001 dayStay away from this company!
They installed an air condition/heater unit 7 years ago. I have had nothing but trouble with the unit and could never reach the company to come out. It would always go to voicemail and would never receive a return call. They are awful. Now I have to replace the unit that is out of warranty and should have lasted another 8 years (at least) with a new unit. Stay away from them.

It has been three days and we cannot get an answer from ZONE MECHANICAL. They are horrible and it is impossible to get a hold of them. They are the worst company out there. I have them through American Home Shield. They are a complete DISASTER!

By AnonymousFebruary 10, 2015leaks in heating system
Similar issues. AHS home warranty sent them out to us for a leak in our heating system. They took the $75 service call fee, looked it over, and that was the last I heard of them for over a month. Called both them and AHS several times. They never call back. AHS calls them to leave messages and they also get ignored. I would be interested to know if the home warranty companies mentioned in the other reviews were also with AHS; if so, why does AHS keep using them?

Zone Mechanical did service for us through our home warratny company. They did not initially fix the issue so they were supposed to schedule a return call but they are impossible to get ahold of. The call always goes to voice mail and they will not return calls. WE called several times over 3 weeks and finally had to have the warranty company provide an alternate company. Not sure how they will stay in business, looks like many others have the same problem.

We placed a service call to them via our home warranty company on a Monday with a specific phone number to call. They called the wrong number and left a message. I have called them for 3 consecutive days, asking them to call me back at the correct (already provided) phone number, and haven't heard from them. I came to this website and saw everyone else's bad reviews, so called my home warranty company and told them to cancel the service call with Zone. I don't want these people anywhere near my home.

They did a service call on my heating system through a warranty company. Said I needed a part they didn't have on hand, and then never showed up or heard from them again. Waiting a month before calling the warranty company and came to find out they ditched the scene and aren't answering calls and/or possibly not in business. Though, they certainly cashed my check right away...BS...

THIRD NIGHT WITHOUT HEAT... with temperatures in the 20s at night.
The contractor is working through a warranty company to fulfill this EMERGENCY. I have attempted several times to contact the company; my husband has attempted to get an update from Zone Mechanical several times. The warranty company has tried to contact the company. I wonder how long it would take to get parts for their personal non-functioning heating system.??
Communication certainly should improve as well!

As many have complained here, Zone Mechanical was a horrible experience. At first Matt and company came off great. They helped us out (through our warranty company) with an HVAC problem with only a couple of delays that Matt promptly blamed on the warranty company. At the time his explanations seemed plausible and didn't keep us waiting too long for final resolution so I didn't think much of it. I should note that during conversations with Matt he repeatedly expressed how much he disliked working with the warranty company and he was just biding his time to get out of the contract with them. This should have been a giant red flag for me but at the time I shared some frustration with my warranty company so I just wrote it off as both of us venting frustration. I should also point out that initial job required a big chunk of money out of my pocket for items that were contractually not covered by the warranty company. A few months later we had another problem with our HVAC and Zone was once again dispatched. They came out promptly to diagnose the issue. Weeks later (and many phone calls) Mike finally came out to replace the part which did not solve the problem. He informed me that the motor would need to be replaced and he would let the warranty company know. It's now 2 months later and still no resolution. Both myself and the warranty company cannot get in contact with Matt, Mike, or anyone from Zone Mechanical. Nor will they return the calls. They have not submitted a diagnosis of the HVAC issue to the warranty company so it's been impossible to get any answers from anyone. Thankfully, the warranty company has since transferred the service call to another contractor. Through all of this I've come to the conclusion that Matt from Zone Mechanical has been lying to me from the very beginning of my HVAC issues. It's obvious that Matt and Zone Mechanical are out to screw over the warranty company for whatever reason (presumably to get out of contract) and are not afraid to use their customers as a tool to achieve that end. I've also come to the conclusion that the only reason our initial transaction went so well is because they were getting a large chunk of money directly from me for that particular job since there were uncovered items and they obviously wanted to get paid that extra money. I would not recommend voluntarily using Zone Mechanical for any service. I find them to be the most dishonest, unethical, and unreliable company I have ever come across in my 21 years of owning a home. If your unfortunate enough to be assigned this contractor by your warranty company be aware that they are likely to leave you hanging and/or lie about it the entire time if you're actually able to get a hold of someone from the company. I wish you all the best of luck and hopefully you will not have to edure the pain of dealing with lying Matt and Zone Mechanical.
