Do I need permits for the following project?

I want to do the following:

  1. Open the wall between the kitchen and living room to make it look more spacious.
  2. Replace my attic’s pull down ladder.
  3. Convert a large room into 2 rooms: a dining room and a guest room.

Do I need to get a permit to do all of these projects? Also can you recommend a contractor to give a free estimate?

Yes, at least in the states of California, Washington, and Oregon you do. Also maybe a Engineer.

Those projects would require a permit

Yes at least in MA. Also, you’ll need stamps drawings from an engineer

It is HIGHLY recommended that you check with your local authority to ask the question directly. Each municipality has the right to decide what they require to be permitted. They will also inform you about any requirements for your contractor if needed, such as state or city licensing.

Yes

yes, most defiantly you need a permit…

Depends If its a load bearing wall then you need a permit and most likly a structral engineer to look at it also which in turns leads to having a blueprint done up before the permit process is started.

In the state of Florida YES you do. If you have any questions pertaining to Florida please feel free to call me at 941-487-0007 ex 101

This question is highly state and town dependant. Depending on the state, county, or town you are located in would answer this question. Mostly likely yes, however there are places where such work would not need a permit.

Yes you would need to have your contractor check with your cities building and safety department and ascertain the Permits.

Check with your local county office and they can let you know what you need permits for.

In Nyc almost everything requires a permit. I would go to a local state agency and them Department of Buildings is your best bet.

yes permits

in ny, this would require a permit

Yes, you do need a permit.

for the next time,
since every region is different the best thing to do is to call to the building department in your city/county and ask.

Yes defiantly need a permit!

For items 1 and 3 you definately need permit. For item 2 you do not. Basically for any new addition you would need a building permit. If you are in Los Angeles area we can provide you with free estimate.

Each state is different, but yes, in California definitely, you’ll also want the permit since it will record your changes to the house, for example adding another room, which can add more value to your house.
