How much will it cost to completely remodel my bathroom?

The bathroom is approximately 5’ x 8’ and I want to replace the toilet, sink and bathtub, as well as the tiling, cupboards and change out the counter to a granite top. How much will this cost if I keep plumbing in the same location and use medium-grade fixtures and finishes? Just looking for a ball-park estimate to see if I’m way off the mark with what I’ve saved for this project.

It’s always good to keep in mind with posts like these that costs can differ greatly based on location, materials/quality, individual contractors, etc.

Some “softer” details that can affect cost:

  • insurance and liability coverage
  • tool quality and attention to detail
  • professionalism and organization
  • permitting
  • organization and professionalism
  • quick or slow turnaround times and jobsite cleanliness

These details matter more to some, and less to others. I’d also recommend reading some of the other questions in the “Hiring a Contractor” section to get an idea of details you should be aware of when reviewing bids.

Hello,

It honestly depends on the quality of work, your location, and the pricing of the finish materials you are using. With the detials you provided I would give a rough estimate of $10,000-$15,000. This price could easily go up or down depending on a site walk through to finailze all the details.

I really don’t like to throw numbers out with out seeing the project, but from your description I would come up with a budget based on the following scope of work.

Dumpster bag
Remove Tub, Tile walls and floor.
Remove wall board in tub area and adjust framing so alcove is plumb and square.
Remove/Replace tub trap,drain assembly,shower faucet,sink faucet and supply valves
Install 1/2" cement board with approved fasteners and adhesive on walls. (approximately 80 Sq. ft. tub to ceiling)
Install 1/2" cement board laid in thin set mortar and screwed every 6" inches with approved fasteners on the floor(I have to assume 5x8 was the floor area approximately 40 Sq. ft.)
Installation of tile in mastic over tub in a strait or staggered pattern with mosaic accent and 2 marble corner shelves with bull nose edge from floor to ceiling.
Installation of tile in thin set mortar in a strait or staggered pattern with bull nose baseboard and marble threshold.
Installation of vanity, medicine cabinet, new GFCI and switches.
Installation of toilet towel and wall accessories.

Mosaic allowance 150.00
Tile allowance 120 sq ft at 3.00 per 360.00
Faucet (2) allowance of 375.00
Tub allowance of 576.00
Vanity & top 800.00 allowance
Toilet allowance 225.00
Medicine cabinet 250.00
Towel bar allowance 50.00

With that all being considered I would place a budget of 11600.00, I hope this was helpful!

The answer to your question is 18-20k, on average.

7-12k depending on your tastes.

Bathroom remodels range form $5000.00 and up.

Hello, there are a lot of variables that go into a bath renovation but I’d bid somewhere between $5K on the low side, $8k on the mid range and $10k on the upper end. It really comes down to finishes.

It is hard to say with out seeing it first hand because there are so many variables that can affect the price. A range of 6k - 10k would be typical depending on materials ect.

The best way to price it is to come out and discuss exactly what is wanted and if there’s anything that may need to be addressed.

Without looking at it your most expenses are in the fixtures (ie toilet vanity) most of the time the old plumbing won’t match to new fixtures, could be in the $5,000 - $6000 range. Tile is expensive best thing to do is take a pad of paper go to Menards and start pricing stuff

First of all, please note that I am a contractor on Maui and costs are typically higher here than on the mainland. Our typical full renovation of a bathroom runs about $16-20,000. This is probably the most common thing we are asked to do. For that amount of money you would get a walk-in tile shower with a mosaic floor, mosaic deco band, and a niche. Shower valve, head, and drain are replaced as well as water supply lines and shutoffs to the new sink and toilet. You get new tiles, vanity mirror, medicine cabinet, vanity light (on a dimmer), shower can light and an exhaust fan. Also, paint and texture touch ups and installation of accessories like towel bars, tp holders, and door hardware would be included.

Where your cost on a bathroom will start to fluctuate is on your choice of tiles, vanity, and shower glass. My opinion on tile is that you should not hold back at all. The money spent on labor for shower installation is the majority of the cost. As long as you select large format tiles of at least 12”x12”, then our labor prices hold. It does not matter if we are installing cheap or expensive tiles. Given that you will not need more than 150 sq ft for your entire bathroom, and the difference can jump from $2 psf to $7 at the highest end, you are looking at a total maximum difference of $750. Given the total cost, my recommendation is to ignore tile prices and pick something to your suit your style and be happy with for years to come!
Your vanity can get costly. You can get a decent looking vanity cabinet off the shelf at Lowes for $400 and an attached sink and countertop for another $150. Or…you can custom order the cabinet for $650 and then buy a prefab slab of stone with and undermount sink and have it fabricated for $1000. Obviously a huge difference, but the options are endless if you ho the expensive route.

Shower glass, if you even want it, can run from $1000-2500 installed. Cost difference is in the thickness of the glass and the hardware chosen.

It would be around $10000 and up depending on level of finish and quality of fixtures and possible issues with structure (dryrot, termites, upgrade of piping if needed etc.)

It really depends on what it’s being done. But a small kids bathroom about a 8x6 is roughly about $4,800 labor. That’s removing flooring, vanity, toilet, tub and plumbing fixtures. I keep materials separate. If I calculated my estimate with materials then I would have issues. For example, if I calculated tile at $3.00/sq’ and homeowner decided on a nicer tile at $9.00/sq’ then I would be out of materials cost and probably also labor. Other bids like framing, drywall, siding I would include materials.

(IF) the sub-floor and plumbing in the wall is ok and can be reused your looking at a minimum of $7500 (Not including fixtures that could be around $2500). Demo, haul away, minimal framing, insulation, drywall, cement board, tile tub walls and floor, plumbing, remove and replace electrical devices and fixtures, diffusers, cupboards, trim, (no door), prime, paint, and install towel bars. Note: No shower door cost included.

All said and done probably around 10K. This price is based on using well qualified-licensed subs! Hope this helps.
Keep in mind I am also in the Chicagoland area, so prices are higher than national average.

For a bathroom remodel of that size can range approximately from $5,300 to $6,500.00. Some factors to consider are layout, accessibility, tile pattern…etc.

The cost for such a remodel would be in the range of $14k - $16k for labor and rough materials depending on the type of tile and fixtures used. Finish materials (tile, fixtures, toilet, tub, granite, etc) are owner’s responsibility and are not included in our quote. Hope this helps.

This bathroom remodel would cost about $8000. Included in this a Kohler undercount sink and a cast iron tub, not a plastic tub. Included is a granite slab for the counter and solid plywood cabinet for the bathroom. New shower valve is also included. All new. Add another $1000 if you want shower glass doors and a new mirror.

Labor and Materials he needs to budgeting about 15k.

Based on the info you provided a ballpark estimate would be $2500 materials and $6500 labor for a complete new bathroom.

The cost to renovate not remodel a 5’x8’ bathroom should be between $6,000.00 and $10,000.00. I see you mentioned using mid grade materials. Mid grade can mean different things to different people. It would only take a few of your selections to be more expensive and you could get to $15,000.00. A good way to keep the cost down is to furnish the materials for your contractor to use. Some contractors won’t let homeowners do that. I have no problem with homeowners providing the fixtures.
