Investigate this contractor CAREFULLY - Charles D. Black aka "Chad" keeps changing the company name and applying for new liscences due to leaving behind him a long trail of very upset folks he has done shoddy work for. He will say the previous companies were his father's (Charles M. Black) and not his but he was the guy we signed our contracts with and the primary point of contact. They are formerly a father and son team that have obtained liscences in Virginia in many names and now 1 Element is beginning to do work in/near Midland North Carolina while still stating they serve Northern Virginia (their lisence is currently based out of Ashburn, VA) and Maryland. Here is the path they have taken in just the past few years-
Company 1:
Virginia Gardens and Hardscapes (Liscence revoked. This can be verified on the DPOR website... files # 2010-02267 & # 2010-02833)
Company 2:
Schwartz Industries (company closed due to litigation) They changed their company name to this... mid contract with a bunch of clients but think about it.. if your name was "Black" and you did great work.. wouldn't you stand behind your own name and not some sketchy variation of it?
Company 3:
1 ELEMENT LLC (Charles Black Jr. on his own and may not even be set up legally due to previous legal problems. This will be the same bait and switch all over again.) In some places on the website the company name is 1 Element and in other places its Element.
